Principal's News

Happy New Year MES families! It is so exciting to have everyone back after the holiday vacation. I love this time of the year because this is when we really get to "dig in" and make huge strides in our learning. Over the next two months, our Friday Morning Meetings will be focused on social awareness with an emphasis on respect and diversity. Be sure to ask your child what they are learning about social awareness during January and February.

Elementary aged children can easily spread and pick up germs and viruses. If your child has developed symptoms or has been sent home from school with symptoms that are of a concern, such as Flu (seasonal or Covid ) Strep Throat or Hand Foot and Mouth aka HFM or Coxsackie virus--- which are all communicable illnesses -please contact your Pediatrician for advice and /or evaluation before returning to school. Please be mindful of illnesses/ coughing that are easily spread through respiratory droplet transmission.

Checklist for returning to school:

  • must be symptom free / fever free - without the aid of any over the counter medications such as Acetaminophen ( Tylenol ) or Ibuprofen ( Motrin or Advil)

Library News

Thank you again for a very successful Book Fair! The students will benefit from all of the new books that we will be able to purchase from the received profits.

Just a reminder that if a book is lost or damaged, it can be replaced with any copy of the book. The book can be gently used and in a different format (paperback to replace a hardcover, older edition, etc.). Amazon has some inexpensive used options for books so that you don't have to pay the full price to replace items. If you lose or damage a book, the first step is to let me know so that I can see what the options are for clearing the student's account so they can continue checking out books from the Library. Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns at cwalsh@mpsd.org.

PTO UPDATE

Our next meeting is NEXT TUESDAY January 10, 2023! We will discuss all that we have

coming up in late winter and spring (SO MUCH) and hear a presentation on Title 1 services from

Mrs. Walsh.

We are looking for local businesses to sponsor our Boosterthon to help offset costs.

Anyone willing to go around to look for sponsors, or, even better, if you would like to have

your business advertised on the shirts that the kids will wear during Boosterthon, please

reach out to ptomartinson@gmail.com or directly to Katie Cashman, who is heading this

effort.

We will have SCHOOL STORE on January 27 and anticipate a need for volunteers, so

please mark your calendar! Sign-up will come through email later in the month.

From Chaos to Calm: Supporting Your Student with Executive Functioning Challenges

Please join the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) for an important presentation. ALL parents, caregivers, and staff are welcome to attend.

Where: Seth Ventress Building, 76 South River Street, Marshfield

Who: Parents, Educators, and Administrators

Presenter: Deb Booth, M.Ed., Pilgrim Area Collaborative

Amy Scolaro, Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel, will provide a brief overview of Marshfield’s SEPAC and discuss the many fun ways you can get involved.

Followed by our feature presentation:

From Chaos to Calm: Supporting your student with Executive Functioning Challenges

Executive function is an umbrella term used to describe a set of cognitive processes that are necessary for emotional and behavioral control. In this workshop participants will learn what executive functioning skills are and will provide insight into the role they play in student learning and the impact difficulties in EF skills have on school success. Oftentimes, students who appear “unmotivated” about schoolwork simply do not have the EF skills required to initiate, plan, organize and persist on school/homework tasks until completion. Parents and caregivers won't want to miss this interactive presentation that will help them gain a clearer picture of how to help their children become more successful and independent learners.

For planning purposes, please click here to RSVP if you plan to attend.
