Dear Cohasset Public Schools Community,

I am sending this edition of The Cohasset Compass today, instead of this past Friday, so we can continue to celebrate the amazing group of 106 young people who graduated from the Cohasset Public Schools on Saturday at the Cohasset Music Circus. The day was a spectacular one. And, though I am biased, it was a true honor to see this particular group wrap up their high school careers. As I said in my speech to the graduates and their families, the one thing stands out to me about this class in particular is that they embody kindness, inclusion, and acceptance. My hope for each of them is that they take this new road on their journey the way they've always done everything: with kindness, with courage, and together.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE COHASSET HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2026!

We can't wait to see what you do next!

Ever Onward,

Sarah

Celebrating Our Retirees! Celebrating Our Retirees!

For most of us, teaching is a calling, not simply a profession. Working with children of all age levels and in different ways takes love, respect, dedication, and time. The adults who work with our students do that and so much more. At this past School Committee meeting, we honored those educators and support staff who have dedicated so many years of their lives to the children and families of Cohasset. We have all benefited from their care, experience, and professionalism and wish each of them a wonderful future as they head off into their retirement years.

Thank you and congratulations to:

  • Susan Ahern, Deer Hill ESP
  • Judy Collins, CHS Nurse
  • Jennifer Gallagher, Deer Hill Library ESP
  • Margaret Holland, Grade 3 Teacher
  • Teddy Holland, Osgood Custodian
  • Michelle Joyce - PreSchool Teacher
  • Kate McAlarney - CHS Math Teacher
  • Karen McInnis - CHS English Teacher and Department Head
  • Nora Rezendes - Bus Driver
  • Russ Sears - CHS Science Teacher
  • Meg Stillman - Kindergarten Teacher
  • Laura Swartz - CMS Art Teacher
  • Eileen Weisslinger - Grade 6 Social Studies
  • Sandra Zappolo - Bus Driver

CPS Professional Learning Plan 2026 - 2027 CPS Professional Learning Plan 2026 - 2027

In Cohasset, we believe that great teaching requires constant growth — and that professional learning is one of the most important investments we make on behalf of your children.

Teaching is not a static craft. The students in our classrooms are changing, research is evolving, and our community's expectations continue to rise. Staying curious, current, and connected to colleagues isn't optional, it's what excellent teaching requires. That's why professional learning in CPS is something we build together so it can be a source of energy and professional pride. To do this work, we reinstituted and reshaped our CPS Professional Learning Council. This was a strategic planning group deliberately built to center teacher voice in all decisions about professional learning. Teachers, administrators, and educational support professionals helped design and shape our new Professional Learning Plan together, and that partnership will continue.

We are excited to now share the CPS 2026–2027 Professional Learning Plan with our community. This plan is driven by three interconnected sources: our Strategic Plan 2025–2030, our School Improvement Plans, and, most importantly, the voices of our educators. Earlier this year, our Professional Learning Council asked staff to complete a survey about professional learning. Their responses were thoughtful and candid, and they directly shaped our plan. We heard a clear call for more teacher-led learning, more role- and content-specific opportunities, and greater choice in how and when educators engage. We also heard that time spent in professional learning should feel purposeful and directly connected to classroom practice. The focus areas reflected in the plan: deeper learning, project-based learning, culturally responsive teaching, and rethinking grading practices, are ones we believe will make a meaningful difference for your children.

We are so grateful for the work of our CPS Professional Learning Council for the work they did this year. Thank you to: Dr. Leslie Scollins, Shauna Decoteau, Mairead Boulrisse, Jess Hansens, Jenn Scott, Sam LaPanne, Brian Scott, Maddie Nielsen, Alex Sullivan, Aleisa Gittens-Carle, Colleen Gibson, Catherine Duggan, Michael Stapleton, and Victoria Cataldo

Cohasset Rocks the State Civic Showcase! Cohasset Rocks the State Civic Showcase!

This past Friday, thirteen Cohasset middle and high school students, along with Ms. Cerruti and Dr. Duncan, presented their academic research and work at the State Civics Project Showcase. The event took place at the The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate .

Each spring, DESE celebrates the work of 8th–12th grade civics students across the state. Through "science fair-style" showcases, students have the opportunity to share their civics projects with local community advisors and each other, receive feedback on their work, and be recognized for their civic engagement. Our students wowed judges, legislators, DESE staff, and students from other schools. All five of our project groups so impressed the judges (Community Advisors) that every group received multiple award stickers. DESE will be announcing their official commendations in the upcoming weeks. New Secretary of Education, Dr. Stephen Zrike Jr., was additionally impressed by our students and committed to coming to Cohasset to attend our next local showcase in the Fall.

Good Things Grow Here Good Things Grow Here

The students in Ms. Berkowitz's painting class have traveled to Holly Hill Farm over the last two weeks to design and paint a mural on their compost container. Each student came up with different elements for the mural and then all were combined into one cohesive piece. Each student played a part-- in design, preparation and painting! It was wonderful to be able to give back to Holly Hill Farm and to know that our students' artwork will live in perpetuity in the community for all to enjoy.
