Happy September!

Can you believe we’ve already been making school for two weeks! What fun!

We are busy exploring our personal convictions, artistic interests and individual learning choices as we complete our study of Sister Corita’s impact on Pop Art. She has been our primary visual culture this month. Her artist-as-activist role in the Pop Art movement was inspiring to her students back when Mrs. Vecchioni was in high school--- and still inspires us today!

We are going to practice some of Sister Corita's printmaking techniques throughout September as we prepare for upcoming studies of Indigenous stories, folkways, harrow and harvest traditions and art making across the Americas.

Potato printmaking, stencils and texture frottage of native plants will be added to our environmental science collaboration--- growing self-portrait boxes with our own unique perspective and emphasis...

We will continue to look at the art concepts of emphasis and perspective---100% BU and Yuko Higuchi with our viewfinders too. Check out our inspirations below:))...(These will be our art themes all school year! HOORAY!)

We are looking forward to working with Ms. Rovito, Mr. Garrison, Ms. Mermuys and Ms. Rivadeneira on a special arts and language project for our upcoming Parent Ofrenda and Dia de los Muertos celebration next month. If you would like to help create our Parent Ofrenda, please email me. More news coming soon!

With Kindness,

Mrs. Vecchioni
