    Arrival

    To ensure the safety and well-being of all our students, we kindly request that drop-off for students does not occur before 7:30 am. This is when supervision becomes available.

    Also, please use the main entrance for students arriving after 8:00 am. You'll notice a cone placed in front of the K-3 entrance (common's door) as a visual cue that the door is locked.

    Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as it helps maintain a safe environment for everyone.

    Woodlawn Elementary Visitor Policy

    At Woodlawn Elementary, the safety and security of our students, staff, and community are of utmost importance. To maintain a secure learning environment, we have implemented the following visitor policy:

    Visitor Check-In Procedure: All visitors, including parents, guardians, and volunteers, must check in at the main office upon arrival. This check-in process involves obtaining a visitor badge, which must be worn on campus.

    Purpose of Check-In: This policy is in place to ensure we have an accurate record of individuals present within the school building at all times. By obtaining a visitor badge, we can better account for everyone on our campus and ensure the safety of our students and staff.

    Restricted Times: It is important to note that the visitor check-in policy is particularly emphasized during student arrival and dismissal times. During these periods, movement within the building is at its peak, and having a clear record of all students and individuals present helps us maintain a controlled and secure environment.

    Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015

    Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed into law by President Obama on December 10, 2015. Contained within this legislation are regulations regarding highly qualified teachers in classrooms. You can request information on the professional qualifications of your student’s classroom teachers and paraprofessionals.

    Professional qualifications include:

    • Whether or not the teacher has met Kansas licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas being taught.

    • The baccalaureate degree, any other grade certification or degree, and the field of discipline of both.

    • If servers and provided by paraprofessionals, their qualifications;

    • If the teacher is teaching under an emergency or professional waiver.

    All teachers at Woodlawn Elementary meet the above criteria. Each one is licensed for the grade levels and subjects being taught. Each has a baccalaureate degree, and none teach under an emergency or professional waiver. The paraprofessional(s), who work under the direction of Title 1 and classroom teachers, meet the required qualifications for the position.

    If you want this information for your child’s/children's classroom teachers and paraprofessionals, please contact Megan Epperson, Assistant Director of Human Resources, or Kristen Ryan, Executive Director of Human Resources for Lawrence Public Schools (785-832-5000).
