From the Principal
Holly Middle School Families,
What an amazing start to the 2026–27 school year! Thank you to all of our students, staff and families for making this week such a wonderful success. Seeing our building filled with excited students brought so much joy and energy to HMS! We cannot wait to see all the great things that this year will bring.
Next week our students will begin taking their Fall i-Ready Diagnostic. Many of our students are familiar with i-Ready as they have been taking these diagnostics each year they have been attending Holly Area Schools. For those that may be new to i-Ready, the diagnostic will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. It is critical that students try their best so we can get accurate data that will help inform our instruction.
To help prepare your child for their diagnostic, encourage them to try their best on each question, try not to rush, and understand that they will not know the answer to every question.
As we wrap up the first few days of school, we are also kicking off Attendance Awareness Month! Families are essential partners in helping students build strong attendance habits by prioritizing being at school, on time, each day. Every Day Counts. Present Today. Ready Tomorrow. Thank you for being with us!
As always, I’m honored to be part of your family, as you are a part of mine.
Wishing you a safe and healthy weekend!
Monica
Safety and Security
Our staff reviewed these protocols with students during their seminar classes this week. Please review the letter below for more information.
Notification to HMS parents 2026-27
Drills
The safety of our students is our top priority. With that in mind, we will be starting our Safety Drills this upcoming week. Our Safety Drills include inclement weather, fire, and lockdown procedures. Prior to each drill we remind students about the purpose of the drill and how we conduct ourselves in order to make sure we are prepared. We ask for full attention and cooperation from our students during these drills. If you have any questions about our drills, please contact me.
Robotics
Please see the exciting news regarding our HMS Robotics team. Students who are interested in becoming involved will have a chance to sign up in the student office.

Tutoring
Please see the flyer attached regarding our after school tutoring program.
Arrival Routine
Students may enter the building beginning at 7:20 AM. At that time, they should place backpacks, cell phones, and personal items in their lockers.
Afterward, students may choose to:
Eat breakfast in the Café (Main Street)
Sit on the Learning Stairs
Or, walk through the Elective Neighborhood
Please review this routine with your child to help them start the day smoothly.
The start of our instructional day is 7:44 am. Monday is a half-day of school, and we will dismiss students at 10:58 am. Our regular schedule of 7:44 am – 2:41 pm will begin on Tuesday, September 1st.
Visitors will not be allowed to access the hallways during arrival or dismissal time. This is for the safety of our students and staff. We are unable to process visitors during these busy times of the day. If you need to make an appointment, please email or call.
Parents using the carline can access it from East Maple and Baird Street. You will pull into the carline loop following the arrows. Please be sure to pull all the way around the loop to reduce the number of cars lined up. Please make sure your child is ready to exit the car once you enter the loop. If you need more time, please find a parking space in our visitor lot, so that this does not slow down the traffic. Students must exit the vehicle from the passenger side; parents will remain in their vehicle. Please review the map and video on our Facebook page before Monday. HMS Parent Drop off/Pick Up Lane
Once you have dropped off your student(s), you may exit the loop by pulling into the left lane. We do not want children to be crossing in front of or behind vehicles to enter the school building. This is a very busy time/space, so please drive slowly. At no time should cars be parked in the drop-off loop/or drivers exit cars in this area. Please be mindful that there are many families trying to bring their children, and when you stop in the loop to say goodbye, you are holding everyone else up. Students walk directly to their lockers, then to breakfast.
For dismissal, parents using the carline will access the same loop, and students will come out on their own and find their vehicle, get in, and leave by using the left lane to exit the loop. Please continue to pull forward as cars leave the pick-up zone.
Student Expectations
Please review our Cell Phone policy with your child before the first day of school. Once on school grounds, students will turn their electronic communication devices off and store them in the locker. Cell phones and communication devices shall NOT be visible throughout the day. This applies to student earbuds/headphones as well. Please follow this link to Page 28 in our student handbook for a complete overview of our policy.
