October 8th, 2021

Hello Lutherville families,

It has been great to see classrooms settle into some of our familiar instructional routines and some new ones that have come with our new math curriculum. Across grade levels, students are growing more independent with learning activities, allowing our teachers to be more precise with small instructional groups and balance whole group instruction with targeted supports for small groups.

Also this week, our students and staff did an excellent job in the necessary work of discussing an enhanced lockdown scenario on Wednesday. Mrs. Hart and I enjoyed the chance to chat with and take questions from families on Thursday morning at "Coffee with Administrators."

Next week, DIBELs parent reports will go home to share information on foundational reading skills for our K-2 students. In next week's Grade Level Team Meetings for Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade, we will be analyzing this data to inform small group instruction, tiered intervention strategies, and enrichment opportunities as indicated by the data.

Finally, a reminder that schools are closed next Friday, October 15th for a professional development day for staff. Looking a little further ahead, November 5th is an early dismissal day for students.

In partnership,

-Mr. McComb

Connections and morning greetings are an important routine in our mornings. In Ms. Noonan's 2nd grade classroom, the morning greeter is a student job, and the options offer contactless and non-hand contact options. Importantly, all students are greeted upon entry to the classroom.

Last Friday after our fire drill, we honored our chief custodian, Mr. Antonio with a huge "ROAR" chant and some handmade gifts. We also shared gratitude and recognition with Ms. Malinda, Ms. Portia, and Mr. Keston, our full custodial team, for their dedication to our school in honor of National Custodian's Day.

The "Lab Coat" honors is passed to honor staff members who go above and beyond for our school. This month Ms. Baker passed it on to Ms. Santiago, a para-educator who has covered classes, translated for parents, and brings the energy every day.

Student Clubs Update

Thank you for your patience as we continue to await final approval for teacher stipends to facilitate clubs. The latest update we have received is that we should expect a final word by next Friday. We are working on our end to be prepared to move forward with clubs as soon as that is received. Again, thank you for your patience.
