2023~2024 SY CHAPTER 2

GOOD MORNING MIGHTY REBELS!

Today begins the first day of quarter 2. Congratulations to everyone for successfully getting through the first quarter of the year. I hope each and every break was well spent and everyone is refreshed and ready to continue this great work that we call education. There are exactly 9 weeks in this quarter, and then first semester will be in the history books. What are your thoughts about how the first quarter went from you? Did you set any goals? If you didn't that is okay, because we have school goals that you can latch on to. If you are a staff member, what did you do to help close the achievement gaps for our scholars? Did you participate in providing any academic opportunities for them? Scholars, are you on track for graduation? Did you complete the quarter with all passing marks? Think about the things that went well. Then celebrate them! Also, reflect on the things that could be better and pinpoint one action that you can take that will help make it better. Then aim to do it!

We will continue to hone in on instructional practices during this quarter. When instruction improves, student outcomes improve. As adults, this begins with us. Over the past week, the staff had an opportunity to reflect on school, grade level and committee goals, while also refining or setting new ones for quarter 2. Our educators who have end of course exams, (EOC's), were brave enough to set ambitious yet attainable goals that will impact our achievement data. BRAVO to all staff for your engagement this week during these processes. This past week was fun, yet productive, (enjoy a few pics below). Things will get better. When you look at the comparative data, it has already gotten better. It is important that we LOOK for the joy in what we do. We must focus on our attention on it and not be distracted by the things that will pull us downward. It doesn't negate the fact that those things, (hardships), will come, but the perspective we decide to have will determine how well we navigate through them. Cheers to a dynamic and successful quarter 2!

Technology

Engagement with technology is a non-negotiable in 21st century classrooms. It is a disservice to students when we yield to apathy regarding technology. It is also the responsibility of students to bring their laptops to class, charged, and maintained on a daily basis. Mr. Rea is the manager of our Learn 21, (21st century), system that inventories laptop devices issued by the district. Any student in need of a device, must report to him in order to receive one. New students and students who have never received a device will have priority in receiving devices. Mr. Rea is able to look into the Learn 21 system to determine if a student has been issued a device.

Procedure reminders

  • Seek approval for field trips from the principal, (in writing), before scheduling any field trips. Include the Mrs. Sprinkle & Mr. Chunn in the email so they can add it to the events & field trips calendar should the field trip be approved.
  • Admit students into your classroom until 8:15 before requiring a pass, after 8:15, all late arrivals must sign-in at the planning center.
  • Refrain from issuing hall passes the first 10 and the last 10 minutes of class.
  • Refrain from "replying all" to mass emails, as it pushes important information down the thread, (potentially causing it to be missed).
  • Review the assessment calendar & make sure that you issue a diagnostic (pre-test), mid-term & final in all classes. These assessments should always access a priority-standard.
  • Only permit students in your class who are on your roster for that period, (unless you are covering a class). This includes advisory.
  • Use all 46 instructional minutes for instruction. Students should not be idle at any time during the period. Prepare critical thinking task for those who master the concepts, and interventions for those who do not.
  • Apply the knowledge gained from PDI into your everyday practices.
