Dorado FamilyUpdates 9.11.23September 11, 2023

Happy Monday Dorado Families!

We are more than halfway through our first quarter of Semester 1, and have finally landed in September! We are hoping for some calmer and cooler weather over these next few weeks!

Before we get into our campus updates, we would like to take an opportunity to pause on this day and honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 lives lost on this day in 2001. We have dedicated our 1 minute of silence of this morning's announcements to this as well. I know that we all often spend these days remembering where we were when we found out about the attack on our nation. I will never forget that day, the feelings and emotions I felt as a young adult, and how this event has forever changed all of our lives. Although none of our Dorados were alive for this event, they will continue to learn about this historical time and we will continue to honor the memory of everyone involved.

We have some important updates and reminders for you to review.

infinite Campus Progress Report Grades

Friday, September 5th, marked the first Progress Report period for Quarter 1 and Semester 1. The next progress reports will go out just before Fall Break in October, marking the end to Quarter 1.

This afternoon, you will be able to access your child’s mid-quarter (4 ½ weeks) progress report in Infinite Campus’ Parent Portal. To locate your child’s progress report use the “Documents” tab in the along the left margin.

The grades reflected in the report are based on the materials/assignments assigned in the first 4 ½ weeks of the school year. The progress report also contains information on your child’s attendance, specifically absences and tardies.

Please note the classes are listed in alphabetical order based on the District’s course code.

If you have questions about your child’s grades, please email your child’s teacher(s). If you are unable to access your Parent Portal account and would like to request a copy of the progress report, please contact Hollyanna Mast D'Bueno at hmastdbueno@amphi.com.

Two important things we want every Dorado to remember about Friday nights:

  • Please show respect and support for CDO's Green Machine Marching Band as these students have put in countless hours over the last few months to prepare for half time shows and statewide competitions. They deserve our support and respect, just as every other student athlete at CDO does. Boomboxes/speakers are not permitted in the stadium as they can be distracting and often disruptive to performances.
  • Unfortunately we had an incident at a local establishment after the Football game on Friday that involved students from multiple schools. We want to remind parents that often times there is no adult supervision and as always, we worry about student safety. Please talk with your student about avoiding loitering and congregating in large areas without adult supervision.

ASVAB

On September 12th and 13th , all Seniors will be taking the ASVAB on campus. The ASVAB is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides students with college and career information and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career.

TARDY POLICY

Students may have up to 3 tardies in a class before they will be referred for a lunch detention. Students will receive warning slips for each tardy. Please remind your Dorado that it is important to arrive in class before the final bell rings. Passing periods are 7 minutes long, and there is a 1-minute warning bell to assist students with getting to class on time.

Backpack or Caddy

CDO's cell phone policy is fairly simple; students should not have their cell phones or ear buds out in classrooms unless otherwise directed to do so from their teacher. The policy states that cell phones must be in backpacks or classroom phone caddies. Teachers will let students know which of the options is preferred in their classroom.

Dress Code

We continue to need your assistance with helping our students to follow our dress code. We keep it simple, and ask that they do not wear:

  • alcohol/drug-related t-shirts
  • muscle shirts with wide gaping arm holes
  • tube tops/sports bras worn as shirts
  • inappropriate brands for school (Playboy, Cookies, etc.)
  • profanity on clothing
  • extremely short shirts and shorts - no belly buttons allowed! (midriff)

NHS Invitations

CDO's National Honor Society has sent out invitations ot Juniors and non-member Seniors who have a weighted GPA of 3.60 or higher. The 2023-2024 Induction Ceremony will be on Wednesday, September 27th.

CDO Green Machine Marching Band

The CDO Green Machine Marching Band has already spent over 97 instructional hours together since July, putting together their Competitive Marching Show for this school year, entitled DREAMSCAPES, which includes the music of Metallica, Santo and Johnny, Eric Whitacre, and Aerosmith. They will be traveling to 6 competitions this year in Tucson and the Phoenix area between now and mid-November. Don't miss the opportunity to support these amazing students, and wish them a fantastic competitive season!!!
