Good Morning Memorial Families,

I hope that you and your family had a wonderful weekend. We are seeing more illness circulating the building over the past couple of weeks, and so I hope that your family remains healthy. Please continue to be considerate of others, and if your child has a fever or is showing symptoms of illness, keep him/her home from school.

Next week Memorial students and staff will be participating in the Great Kindness Challenge. The challenge was created several years ago by a non-profit organization called Kids for Peace out of California. The week began with just a few schools and over the past decade has grown to include schools and students from all over the world. The official date for this challenge this year are this week, but we are going to complete the challenge next week to kick off the month of February in a positive manner. Your children will have a daily read aloud, listen to a daily quote, participate in a daily kindness activity, and have a spirit week all centered around kindness and promoting acts of kindness. Next Monday, your child will come home with a kindness checklist. Any student who completes more than 75% of the checklist in a week will receive a token of appreciation. We encourage the entire family to get involved and share your acts of kindness with me through email at wbell@mursd.org as part of our end of the week celebration assembly.

A Few Updates and Upcoming Events

  1. We postponed the lockdown drill last week due to consistently terrible weather. We have rescheduled for a day this week. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

  2. Kindergarten 2023-2024 Information Night is this Wednesday night at 6:00pm. The district’s safety presentation is scheduled for 7:00pm at Nipmuc, and we will be sure to have families out by 6:45pm to ensure you have time to make it to the safety presentation if you are interested.

  3. Liz Garden (Clough Principal), Lauren, and I will be presenting our budget requests to the school committee tonight. You can watch the presentation on the MURSD YouTube channel. The meetings begins at 7:00pm.

Have a wonderful week!

Warmly,

Lauren and Wendy
