Practice Makes Perfect!
Nile Garden will have safety drills every month
Nile Garden School will conduct drills each month. In most cases these drills will be a fire drill. However we have different drills that we will practice. They say practice makes perfect! We would like you to be aware of some of those drills so you can talk with your student and in the event of an emergency you can help be part of the solution.
Shelter-in-Place
A precautionary state on a school campus caused by the potential of a threat nearby, but not on the campus. For example, if law enforcement officers are searching for a suspect in a nearby area, a school many shelter-in-place out of an abundance of caution. During a shelter-in-place, students and staff move inside, doors are secured, and no movement is allowed between rooms without escort by safety staff. Instruction continues in classrooms. No one is allowed to enter or exit the campus. A shelter-in-place allows a school to quickly transition to a lockdown if it becomes necessary.
Lockdown
A safety status on a school campus caused by the presence of an actual or possible threat currently on or directly adjacent to the campus. During a lockdown, students and staff move to the nearest available room and secure the door. All windows are covered, lights are turned out and students and staff may take additional steps to conceal or barricade themselves in the room depending on the specific threat. Normal operations including instruction stop. No one is allowed to enter or exit the campus.
Fire Drill
Fire Alarm Signal is a voice that comes over the loudspeaker stating that fire has been detected and to exit the building. This signal can be activated by one numerous pull stations throughout the campus or by smoke sensors. Students and staff will flow the designated routes that have been designated as safe locations (grassy field, parking lots, or off campus if needed).
Earthquake
At first recognition of seismic activity, staff will direct students away from windows and to initiate DROP, COVER and HOLD ON procedures. Once clear staff and students will evacuate to designated safe locations.
