COURSE SPOTLIGHT
Writing, Discussion & Pronunciation | Evenings
Sally Kuzma, Instructor
"Our evening English course is designed around topics that students themselves identified: accessing community resources, communicating in the workplace and in health care situations, and skills for communicating across cultures. This is English for everyday communication for students who want to be able to engage more as workers, parents, and citizens. We take time to get to know each other so that we can learn collaboratively in a friendly, supportive environment where it's ok to try new things, make mistakes, and have fun. We all have knowledge to share — about our languages, and about our life in the Framingham / Metrowest area— and we benefit from learning from and with each other.
Students spend most of the class time interacting with each other, whether it's comparing notes about vocabulary or grammar activities, practicing useful phrases for asking questions and clarifying information, or role-playing situations they might encounter in real-life or on the phone. There is writing homework and a quiz every week so students can get formal feedback on their progress. It's exciting to see and hear their confidence increase as they gain new ways to express themselves-- language is a superpower!
I've been impressed by the students' level of commitment and participation, especially as many are juggling work and school and family responsibilities. It is a joy and a privilege to get to know them and collaborate in this learning journey!."
Students' Testimonials
Vanete
”I really enjoyed this class; the environment is very friendly. Sally encourages us to challenge ourselves to speak better English within small groups, breaking down the fear of self-expression through communication. I have made progress in my pronunciation, and she has helped me improve my English so much. FSU has a nice program. I’m deeply grateful."
Danielle
"I really like how we practice real conversations in a relaxed environment. It helps me feel more confident speaking and not worry too much about mistakes. This class helped me communicate better at work and in everyday situations, and I feel more comfortable speaking and understanding people. I enjoy the discussions the most because they feel like real-life and work conversations, which makes learning more fun and practical. The class is very welcoming, and the teacher Sally is really supportive; I feel comfortable participating and learning at my own pace. To anyone thinking about it, I would say just go for it!"
Andressa
"I am currently an Au Pair, and one of my main goals has always been to improve my English. With this course and our wonderful teacher, Sally, I am improving my pronunciation, listening, and communication skills. The classes are always very dynamic and engaging, which makes learning easier and more enjoyable. I also feel more confident speaking English in my daily life. This course is a great opportunity to improve English in a supportive and friendly environment."

"I would say, 'Don’t be afraid to start'. The teacher leads the class in a dynamic way that keeps everyone engaged and motivated to participate. The environment is very supportive, and everyone is learning together. One of my favorite topics was about interviews. It came at the perfect time; I was conducting interviews to hire for the company I work for, and it prepared me so well.
This class has helped me a lot in my daily life. It has made a real difference in how I express myself; I feel more comfortable communicating at work and understanding others. It’s a great opportunity to improve your English and gain confidence step by step."
David
"I really enjoy the topics we study, especially pronunciation practice. The classes are practical and useful, covering important topics such as immigration and job interviews. Sally is friendly, patient, and always willing to help. I would recommend English classes at FSU because they are a really good option."
