What is College & Career Kick Off (CCKO) Month? What is College & Career Kick Off (CCKO) Month?

Each high school has several events planned that will encourage and assist seniors with completing the necessary steps to be ready for what comes next.

College and Career Kickoff focuses on college and career readiness and is connected to the Riverside County Office of Education Pledge— Every student in Riverside County will graduate from high school academically and socially prepared for college, the workforce, and civic responsibility. College and Career Kickoff is one of many countywide initiatives aimed at taking a more proactive approach to preparing TK-12th grade students for post-secondary goals. Each TVUSD high school has shared their school's plan for CCKO with students and families through their own newsletter. All high school counseling teams will be offering college application workshops, financial aid application workshops, a college and career fair, and so much more. Please review the events being offered at your school so you can plan to attend as many as you can.

Every senior will receive a mailer from California State University's Chancellor Office. Any senior who is on track to complete the A-G college admission requirements will get an extra bonus in their mailer: a code that will allow them to submit a CSU application to one campus for FREE! If you feel like you are an A-G completer, but did not receive a code (or did not receive the mailer at all) then please check with your counselor. They can confirm that you are on track to meet the A-G requirements and can access your code to assist you in getting your fee waived for 1 CSU application. You can use this code to apply to any of the 22 CSU campuses.

The mailer will also explain that seniors who are A-G completers will be offered direct admission to 17 of the 22 CSU campuses. This means that as soon as you submit your application, you will receive an admission offer as long as the campus you applied to is not an "impacted" campus and you did not choose an "impacted" major. Here is an CSU Impaction matrix to help you figure out if your campus or major is "impacted."

Please plan to attend a college application workshop with your school's counselors to let them assist you and review your completed application before you submit it. They can verify that you have entered your fee waiver code correctly and save you $70.

What do I need to get done in October & November?

To Do List for October & November:

  • Login to your www.californiacolleges.edu (CCGI) account using your "CLEVER" single sign on. This CaliforniaColleges.edu account is a valuable resource, and both CSUs and UCs strongly encourage you to connect your CCGI account to your CSU and/or UC application to make the information on your application as accurate as possible.
    • Parents can also create an account to observe the activities and applications completed in the CCGI platform.
  • Check your mailbox at home. If you are an A-G completer, then you have a mailer in your mailbox that has a CSU college application fee waiver code worth $70!
  • If you are a university bound student, you should SUBMIT your UC, CSU, private and out-of-state college applications between October 1 and November 30, 2026. Double check private and out-of-state colleges for their submission deadlines as they could differ from the public California universities.
  • If you are a community college bound student, check your preferred community college's website to see when the Fall 2027 application will become available. Some will be available October 1st, but others will be later in the semester.
  • If you are military bound, then sign-up for the ASVAB at your school during October. Also, meet with your preferred military branch recruiter so you know what ASVAB score you need to do your desired job in the military.
  • If your plan is to attend a trade school or to do an apprenticeship program to be trained in a trade, please contact the trade school, community college CTE program, or apprenticeship coordinator to confirm your trade is part of their available programs. There also may be testing requirements or applications that you will need to complete in the next few months.
  • ALL STUDENTS will need to complete a Financial Aid application since it is a high school graduation requirement. The Financial Aid application can also be launched from your CCGI account... the FAFSA and the CADAA are available.
