Lambrick Park Weekly
May 23, 2025
Dear Families,
This morning, Saanich Police received several reports of a cougar being spotted in the area of Cedar Hill Road and Cedarglen Road and issued an alert to our community. We are not aware of any additional sightings since this morning.
As a precaution and as we near the end of the day, Saanich Police is advising students/families to stick to main roads on their way home from school.
Please keep in mind the following recommendations as per Saanich Police and the Government of BC if you encounter a cougar:
- Stay calm, and call 911 and the BC Conservation Service at 1-877-952-7277
- Back away slowly, and make yourself look as large as possible
- Keep the animal in front of you, ensuring it has a clear avenue of escape
- Never run or turn your back on a cougar
- If a cougar shows interest or follows you, respond aggressively, maintain eye contact, arm yourself with rocks or sticks, and make loud noises.
Thank you for staying safe and wishing you a wonderful weekend.
