Sixth Grade Is Headed to the Zoo! 🦁
On May 21, our sixth graders will be visiting the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo! To help us process payments efficiently, a $3 zoo field trip fee may be submitted in one of the following ways. Please note that the cost of the trip applies to all students, regardless of family membership to the zoo.
Pay online through your student’s PaySchools account, or
Send in cash or a check for the exact amount (please note that change cannot be provided).
If paying by cash or check, please place the payment in a clearly labeled envelope with your student’s first and last name and send it to the main office so it can be properly applied. All payments must be received by March 20th in order to meet the zoo’s payment deadline.
If you are interested in chaperoning, please note that all chaperones must have a clear BCI background check on file with Strongsville City Schools, as required by the Ohio Department of Education. We truly appreciate the time and support our families give to our school community. If you are interested and have a background check on file, please reach out to your Team Leader by March 20th. Volunteers will be selected on a lottery system.
Fingerprinting is done between 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Human Resources Office located in the Strongsville Administration Offices, 18199 Cook Road Strongsville, Ohio. Cost is $22.00 payable by exact cash or check, $23.00 if credit. If you have not lived in Ohio for the last 5 years, the cost is $47.25 (exact cash or check) or $49.25 (credit). Make sure to bring your driver's license.
More information about our zoo trip will be shared as we get closer to the date.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to make this a fun and smooth experience for our students. Please feel free to reach out with any questions!

As Seen in Sixth Grade
To support a district-wide fundraiser for Blood Cancer United (the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to ending blood cancers), Admirals had an extra incentive. If they raised $300 collectively, Mrs. Brown would get pied in the face.
They raised over $500 in less than one week.
Student vs Staff basketball game with Duck Toss to support Blood Cancer United.
To support there learning during a recent Titanic unit in ELA, Viking students participated in a STEM activity and created their own lifeboats.
To support learning during a novel study (Bomb: The Race to Build—and Steal—the World's Most Dangerous Weapon by Steve Sheinkin), Viking students created a Rube Goldberg-style chain reaction which simulated a chain reaction event in the making of the atomic bomb.
During a recent social studies unit on Ancient Egypt, students used Legos to create models of pyramids or the Sphinx.
SMS Media Center's February theme was a blind date with a book. Here are some sixth graders taking part in the reading challenge!
