Maugham Moments
December 2025 Newsletter
A Word from Mrs. Loor
Dear Maugham Families,
In a blink of an eye, we are 1/3 through our school year already! We are in full holiday season mode now! I genuinely thank you for all of your generosity by donating winter wear, food, and holiday gifts for our families in need.
In November, we had our annual book fair with a special evening session for families to shop together. Thank you to the HSA for providing raffles, prizes, hot chocolate, snacks and the magician!! We also had a pedestrian/bike safety assembly where students were given important reminders for when they are crossing roads and riding bikes/scooters around town.
We are looking forward to the Winter Concert on Tuesday, December 9th at 7 pm where our band, orchestra and chorus will perform led by Mrs. DeJoseph and Mr. Do. I can't wait to see how much progress our students have made this fall. The THS Madrigal Singers will continue their annual tradition of filling our school with holiday music and cheer!
Lastly, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and Happy Kwanzaa! I hope this holiday season is filled with love, rest, and gifts!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor
1st Marking Period Report Cards & Parent/Teacher Conferences
Report cards will be available to view in the Genesis Parent Portal beginning on December 3rd at 3:00 PM. This gives families a chance to look over their child’s progress before conferences.
By this point, you should have been in contact with your child’s teacher to schedule an appointment for Parent/Teacher Conferences on December 4 and 5. If you haven’t done so already, please reach out to the teacher as soon as you can to see if there are any available time slots.
As a reminder, Parent/Teacher Conference Days are half school days, and students will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. There is no lunch served on these days.
We appreciate your partnership and look forward to connecting with you during conferences!
Lost & Found Cleanout
Our Lost & Found will be cleared on Monday, December 8, with all remaining items donated or discarded. During Parent/Teacher Conferences, we encourage you to stop by and take a quick look for any belongings your child may be missing. The Lost & Found is located by the main entrance doors under the overhang.
If your student loses something, please let their teacher know right away so your child can look for it in the Lost & Found before items pile up.
Giving Tree - Thru December 12
Please join our first graders for their annual Giving Tree initiative, and purchase a holiday gift for a child in need. Here's how:
- Email your child's teacher saying that you would like to participate in the annual Giving Tree.
- Your child will pick a tag from our Giving Tree with the name and age of a child in need.
- Purchase a new, age appropriate gift for the child. (No handmade gifts, please.)
- Attach the tag your child picked to the gift and leave the UNWRAPPED gift to any first grade classroom.
Our first graders and the Bergen County Department of Children and Family Service thank all of you who choose to give! Last day to drop off donated gifts is Friday, December 12.
Car Line Etiquette
Thank you for all the feedback we've gotten about the drop off and pick up line! It seems like it is running smoother than in previous years, but there is always room for improvement.
Senora Tellez is our arrival supervisor and Ms. Meehan is our dismissal supervisor. You will see both teachers outside daily along with myself. It is important that you follow their instructions.
As the weather turns colder and more families utilize the car line, it is to everyone's benefit that the car line is used safely and correctly.
Here are some important reminders:
- Have your child ready to exit the car as soon as you are stopped no matter where they are in the car line in the drop off/pick up zone. (see picture below)
- Children must exit on the passenger side/curb side only for their safety.
- Do not exit your car at any time. If you must assist your child in getting in and out of the car, please park elsewhere.
- Pull up all the way to the front of the car line as not to leave large gaps in the car line at arrival or dismissal.
- The bus parking area is reserved from approximately 8:15-8:35 am and from 2:50-3:10 pm. Once the bus has dropped off or picked up students, the sign will be turned allowing you to pull up to the first drop off/pick up sign.
- Your child must be in Genesis as independent dismissal in order to use the pick up car line.
- Do not block the entrance at arrival or the exit at dismissal of the staff parking lot.
Please watch and share our video below with all caregivers who drop off and pick up your children from school daily!!
