2nd GradeNewsletter January 12-16

Hello 2nd Grade Families,

We had a fantastic first week back from winter break! Students returned energized and ready to learn, diving right into new lessons and classroom activities. Weโ€™re excited for all the growth and successes ahead this semester.

๐ŸŒŸ Math

In math this week, weโ€™re focusing on adding and subtracting up to four two-digit numbers. Students are practicing mental math strategies and learning step-by-step methods to solve problems confidently and accurately.

๐Ÿ“š ELAR (English Language Arts & Reading)
In ELAR, we are exploring different types of stories: folktales, fables, and fairy tales. Students are learning to identify unique characteristics of each, helping them become more thoughtful and engaged readers. We are practicing how to make inferences and use evidence from the text to support our understanding. Students are learning to read between the lines and explain their thinking with proof from what they read.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Social Studies
In social studies, we are learning how people change and adapt their environment. Students are discovering examples of how communities build roads, plant crops, and create buildings to meet their needs.

๐Ÿ”ญ Science

In science, weโ€™re investigating how wind and water move soil and rock across the Earthโ€™s surface. Students are exploring real-world examples of erosion and learning how these natural forces shape our planet. If you are able, please have your student bring in some small sticks and pebbles to use in our Performance Task this week. They need to be smaller than a 13x9 pan. Thank you!

  • If you are dropping off your childโ€™s lunch, please make sure to bring it NO LATER than 12:00 PM.

We truly appreciate your help in making sure every child has a stress-free and smooth lunchtime. Thank you for your cooperation and support!

  • Please make sure your child is not bringing any toys to school. Several students are taking their Labubus off their backpacks and playing with them throughout the day or taking them to Specials. These items need to be left at home. Thank you!

  • Along with weekly Phonics practice, have your child read something of their choice for 20 minutes a night or 100 minutes for the week. Please see the Take Home Support pictured here for more guidance on At-Home Phonics activities. This paper is also located in each student's purple folder.

  • Your student is now expected to type in their own username and password to log in to their chromebook. Log in to Skyward to find their username and password and help them memorize it at home!

  • Please be sure to bring a labeled water bottle and healthy snack daily.

  • Please check Take Home folders each week for teacher communication regarding classroom behavior and to empty contents.
