7th & 8th Grade Boys Basketball Results
Tuesday, 2/22 - Alma
The 7th grade B-Team came to play tonight and took home a win. From the tip-off to the buzzer at the end our Huskies out played/out hustled and out shot Alma. This was the best game of the season for the group as they won every aspect of the game tonight. We had a lot of offensive contributors tonight….. Noah VanHaistma had 20 pts, Grady Galbraith had 6 pts, Brayden Turner had 5 pts, Eddie Dearman had 4 pts and Charlie Clark chipped in with 3 pts. Way to go fellas.
Tonight was an up and down night for the 7th grade A team that ended in a loss. We started off hot and played well the first quarter, but went cold and struggled defensively for the end of the 2nd and start of the 3rd. Coach Clark made some adjustments to close the 3rd and the Huskies closed the gap on some better defense and quick transition baskets. In the end Alma was a very solid team and pulled away for the win. Game leaders for tonight’s game were…. Gavin Schmidt with 10 pts/7 rebs, Wyatt Lauenstien with 10 pts/7 rebs and Mason Lavigne with 8 pts/5 rebs.
Last night the 8th grade huskies dropped a hard fought game to the Alma Panthers. The Huskies handled business in the first half, jumping out to a commanding 15 point lead, but in the second half, the Panthers made some changes and took the game over. The Huskies lost by a final of 56-34, but had solid performances from Brennan Meyer with 15 points and Nick Chasnis with 8.
Wednesday, 2/23 - Swan Valley
What a game! This was a fairly evenly matched contest from the start, with each team having their hot and cold spells throughout the game. Our 7th grade B-Team Huskies had a two point lead with about 30 seconds to go in regulation and with the buzzer literally going off SV hit a bucket that tied the game. Going into the 4 minute overtime…..it was a defensive battle with not a lot of scoring. However, with less then a minute left Caden Miller stepped to the free throw line and drained one of his free throws to put us up by 3. SV got the ball and ended up making a basket, but the big free throw by Caden sealed the deal. Great season fellas and way to end on an overtime thriller! Lots of offensive contributors tonight again…. Caden Miller 7 pts, Eddie Dearman 6 pts, Noah VanHaistma 6 pts and Grady Galbraith 6 pts.
Our 7th grade A Team group got off to a slow start offensively along with some early foul trouble, but did enough to stay in the game to start the second half. The team started to play better on defense, which led to some quick baskets. Once the team started making some transition baskets they then started to drain a few 3’s to tighten the game up even more. Unfortunately with time running out we ended up losing by three points. The Coaches were very proud of the boys playing hard, getting back into it and making it a game at the end….just needed a minute or two more on the clock. Great season fellas…..keep pushing yourself on and off the court! Game leaders for tonight were Wyatt Launstein with 12 pts, Gavin Schmidt with 6 pts and Xavier VanWagner with 6 pts.
Last night the 8th grade Huskies lost a hard fought game to the Swan Valley Vikings. Though it was a tough loss, the team showed awesome progress from where they had started the season. The boys played extremely hard, and outside of some turnovers, executed quite well. Jack Ray and Brennan Meyer each added 4 points, while Gabe Laporte and Gabe Messing each tallied 6 points. It was a great season from the boys, who showed so much growth from game 1 to game 9!
