Parents: Are You Monitoring Your Child's Attendance?

Every School Day Matters!

Regular school attendance is one of the most important factors in your child's academic success. Missing just two days of school each month can add up to 20 days over the school year—more than 10% of the school year.

We encourage all parents and guardians to regularly monitor their child's attendance.

How Can You Check Your Child's Attendance?

Step 1: Access your school's parent portal, if available, using your parent or guardian login credentials. Go ASPEN -

https://ri-newport.myfollett.com/aspen-login/?deploymentId=ri-newport

Step 2: Locate the attendance section to review your child's absences, tardiness, and attendance history.

Step 3: If you do not have access to the parent portal, contact your child's school office for assistance or to request an attendance report.

Step 4: If you notice an error or have questions about your child's attendance, contact the school directly.

What Is Chronic Absenteeism?

In Rhode Island, a student is considered chronically absent when they miss 10% or more of the school days they have been enrolled, regardless of whether the absences are excused or unexcused.

We Are Here to Help!

We understand that illness, transportation difficulties, family circumstances, and other challenges can sometimes make regular attendance difficult.

If your family is experiencing challenges that affect your child's ability to attend school regularly, please contact your child's principal. We want to work with you to find solutions.

The chart below provides an interesting look at the impact of missing school. Bottom line – kids who come to school do better academically.

New Trees Being Planted At Rogers High School🌳 New Trees Being Planted At Rogers High School🌳

We are thrilled to share that 50 new trees are being planted across our new Rogers High School campus this fall! Thanks to a partnership between Newport Public Schools, the Newport Tree Conservancy, and the City of Newport Parks, Grounds & Forestry Division—supported by grant funding from the RIDEM Community Forestry Program—our grounds are receiving a major green upgrade.

These plantings will beautify our school grounds, improve local shade and stormwater management, and provide hands-on environmental learning opportunities for our students. We extend a special thank you to the Newport Tree Conservancy for their longtime partnership and dedication to supporting Newport Public Schools!

Laundry Love helps low or no-income families & individuals afford the cost of washing clothing & bedding by partnering with local laundromats to help relieve some of the financial burden facing families. It is our hope that through this program, people in our community are able to redirect their resources to other essential needs such as food, gas, and medical necessities.

Laundromats are shared community spaces for people of all backgrounds. We aim to utilize these safe spaces to help residents learn about assistance programs with our team of volunteers while receiving free detergent, dryer sheets, and financial assistance to cover the cost of washing and drying.

Upcoming Laundry Love Events:

MICKI'S MAT LAUNDROMАT
272 Bellevue Ave, Newport

SPORTS REPORT: Vikings Volleyball Gets After It!

The Rogers Volleyball team has been getting after it! Since the start of the season, these dedicated student-athletes have worked hard in practice, improved each day, and battled for every point. Their effort, teamwork, and determination make the future bright for this group—both on and off the court.

Just as impressive is their commitment to academics. They represent what it means to be Vikings: student-athletes who take pride in their school, support one another, and give their best in the classroom and in competition. We are proud of them!
