DIBELS
Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills
About
DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is a set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of literacy skills. These are short fluency measures designed to detect risk and monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills.
Why are these tests administered?
DIBELS measures help teachers and schools determine how students are performing on important reading skills. The skills measured are necessary for successful beginning reading and include: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Who participates?
Students in grades K-5. Students in grades 6-8 are assessed as needed. Each of the DIBELS skills tests takes about one minute to complete.
When are these administered?
At P-CCS we collect this information in the fall, winter, and spring.
