MISSION
VISION
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BANKS
Dear Lindblom families and community,
Last week, a few of our students (Lyric Brazell, Ava Gresser, Eric Johnson) served as panelists among district-wide representatives advocating for multilingualism throughout Chicago Public Schools. In a city as diverse and complex as Chicago, where historic segregation has limited equitable access to resources and opportunities, multilingualism becomes a powerful tool for dismantling barriers and expanding possibility. We are immensely proud of our student panelists and grateful for the leadership of Mr. Abughoush, our World Language Department Chair, whose guidance continues to elevate the voices and experiences of our Eagles.
Hearing our students speak about multilingualism was both inspiring and affirming. They candidly described how learning another language nurtures joy, empathy, self-awareness, and cultural appreciation, while also equipping them to confront and navigate the burden of harmful race-based stereotypes with confidence and competence. Multilingualism strengthens cognitive pathways, deepens cultural awareness, and promotes access, engagement, and empowerment.
Our students' responses reminded me of the mission and vision of a local non-profit; My Block, My Hood, My City, founded by Jahmal Cole, to help young people see beyond the boundaries of their neighborhoods and imagine broader futures. Our world language program does the same by connecting our students to cultures in our city, our nation, and the world and by positioning them to fully embrace and lead within their global identities.
Together we rise in cultural appreciation,
Principal Banks

Greetings LMSA community,
It is with bittersweet news that we share the departure of Colonel Harris from "The Nest." As he prepares for his next chapter, he shared these reflections on his journey with us:
"If I had to sum up my experience here in three words, it would be: Children are everything. My best work has always happened when the focus remained on the kids, and I’ll miss them most of all."
Colonel Harris leaves behind a trail of remarkable achievements that have truly put Lindblom on the map. His tenure was defined by incredible academy success, having mentored six students toward appointments at West Point and another to the Air Force Academy. He also broke new ground for the district by leading the first CPS school to compete in the Florida national fitness competition. His last day will be on February 20, so feel free to drop by the drill hall or send an email to wish him well.

Exciting Arabic Language Opportunity at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share an outstanding opportunity for students who are interested in continuing their Arabic language studies in college.
The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) is home to one of only three Language Flagship Arabic Flagship programs in the United States. This prestigious public-private initiative supports U.S. university students in achieving advanced fluency and deep cultural competency through rigorous coursework and generous study-abroad scholarships.
The Arabic Flagship Program is a five-year degree pathway designed to help students reach a Superior level of Arabic proficiency. The program begins the summer before freshman year, where students complete an intensive year of Arabic study before starting fall classes. This early start allows students to build confidence, form a strong cohort community, and enter their first year well-prepared.
Students continue advanced Arabic study both on campus and abroad, including opportunities at: AALIM Center in Meknes, Morocco
Middlebury Language Center in Amman, Jordan
University of Moulay Ismail (Capstone Year in Meknes)
Alexandria University (New partnership through TAFL in Egypt)
During their Capstone year abroad, students intern, volunteer, and enroll directly in university coursework, gaining real-world professional and cultural experience.
Graduates of the program go on to careers in intelligence, NGOs, government, law, translation, analytics, and graduate programs worldwide.

Mental Health Summit
CBCAC is thrilled to announce that registration for Planting Resilience: an Asian American Youth Mental Health Summit is live! Registration can be found HERE.
As community organizers and educators, CBCAC has long felt the current of interest to engage in better mental health care and practices among Asian American communities. Planting Resilience was born out of the recognition that Asian American communities experience a major lack of mental health services due to inaccessibility and perhaps, avoidance. The summit is a safe space where youth can explore a variety of topics in community and without judgement, and is aimed to serve high school Asian American youth as well as their parents, guardians, or other caregivers.
Despite the common trope about stigma around mental health, we truly believe that between youth and their caregivers, the lack of candid dialogue around the topic is a two-way street and that there is great mutual interest to arrive at a new era of intergenerational care. That is why the summit is designed to focus on youth for the full day and provide programming for caregivers like parents, youth workers, teachers, etc., in the second half.
The summit is an all-day experience held at the Field Museum on Saturday, March 14th. There will be a variety of breakout rooms with workshops designed to address topics that the youth feel are important to them, such as exploration of identity, academic pressure, social media anxiety, and more!

BE ENGAGED
Dear Parent or Guardian,
We are writing to let you know about a survey your child will be asked to participate in this winter, called 5Essentials. This survey is administered by UChicago Impact for the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). The survey asks students about their experiences and feelings, such as support from their teachers, how safe they feel at school, their school work, and plans for the future. Having such information directly from students is critical for developing plans to improve schools. For information about this survey, please visit: Here or call the survey hotline at 1-866-440-1874.
All students’ answers will be kept in strict confidence. No students will be identified in reports relating to this survey. If you DO NOT want your child to participate in the 5Essentials Survey, please send an email to akgreens2@cps.edu.
