COYOTECONNECTIONFamily Engagement Newsletter May 2023
Dear Families,

The end of the school year is just around the corner and we want to thank you for your ongoing support and partnership this school year. We want to remind and encourage you to attend end of year activities and events where families are welcome. See the Calendar of Events below where we have indicated which events families are welcome to attend. Many of our grade levels are taking field trips, and are in need of chaperones so please check in with your child's teacher about helping out. Don't forget to join us this Thursday evening, May 18 for our Arts and Culture Night, we have many wonderful things taking place and we want you to stop in to see your child's artwork too!

Important Reminders: Leave toys at home

Please remember that children should leave toys at home. All toys, gadgets, trading cards, and playground equipment must not be brought to school unless a specific arrangement and/or exception has been made with your child's teacher and an administrator. If any of these items are lost, broken or stolen, it is very upsetting and we want to eliminate this issue by leaving these items at home. You may contact your child's teacher and/or an administrator with any questions.

Staying hydrated at school

Please help your child stay hydrated in school by sending them with a fresh water bottle daily. Water is essential to your child’s health and should make up the majority of their fluid intake.

Please avoid sending your students with any sports beverages, soda, coffee drinks, or energy drinks such as Gatorade, Prime, etc. These can contain empty calories, sugars, caffeine, unnecessary chemicals, and dyes. Some of these beverages may not be recommended for consumption by children under age 18, as they can contribute to problems related to nervousness, trouble sleeping, stomach aches, and headaches.

We will help by reminding students to bring their water bottles and they can fill them at the school filling station.

Water is best for supporting cognition, preventing dental problems, and maintaining a healthy weight! For more information, see https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/power-drinks.html

CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. JOERRES, GRADE 1 TEACHER

Here are some great things to know about Ms. Joerres:

My goal is to continue to learn new ways to support my students to succeed both academically and socially and to be the best teacher I can be! Being a life-long learner is very important to me and my goal is to continue to learn from my students and colleagues, as well as to take classes each year to improve my teaching practices.

One of my major accomplishments was receiving my Master’s Degree in Reading and Literacy and earning my Reading Specialist license.

My students motivate me. I love seeing the look on their faces when they are excited to be learning something new! Also, my son inspires me to be creative and embrace adventure!

I love going to the beach, shopping, and reading. My favorite thing to do is to spend time with my family and friends!
