Good afternoon Families,
Despite such a gloomy weather week, spirits have been high here at WES. We do a word of the week during our Friday morning meetings and we have been on a Halloween theme. The weather seems very appropriate for some spooky vocabulary!
This year our district had Dr. Ross Greene come and speak with us during our August in-service time. I am not sure if you are familiar with Dr. Greene, but he has written several books about child development and has created a model for helping children that experience a lot of frustration and, as such, are often dysregulated. Elementary schools are receiving a few extra hours working with consultants from his organization so we can use some of these strategies with some of our students. Personally, I used his book The Explosive Child, when my son was young and was having daily tantrums. For more insights into the system he developed for working with students in schools, his books The Kids Who Aren’t Okay and Lost and Found are really insightful.
WESPO is doing a Cookie Love fundraiser again this year. Information was sent home yesterday. If you have any questions, please let us know. Also, this coming Friday, Oct. 23rd, WESPO will be hosting Trunk or Treat here at WES from 6:00-7:30! We hope you can join us for this fun event! And, our Open House will be Thursday night from 5:30-6:30, preceded by our Annual Title I meeting at 5:00. See you there!
