A message from me...

Good Afternoon

Next Friday will be my final update. For the past 11 years (JA/Jerome), I have written a weekly newsletter for our students and families, and it will feel odd not to do that anymore — and yes, I am saying odd, not sad.

Next week’s message will include a few final reminders for the end of the year, but it will mostly be a short note of thanks and gratitude as I prepare for my new opportunity. Honestly, I am not exactly sure what I will say until I get a little closer to it. I have always tried to make this weekly message authentic, thoughtful, and connected to what is happening in our school community.

Writing it has given me a chance to pause, reflect, and share a small piece of what makes Jerome such a special place. If you have taken any time over the years to read these messages, watch a video, or simply stay connected through the update, thank you. I truly appreciate it.

Have a great weekend,

Mike

🇩🇪Jerome German Student Wins Trip to New York for "German Day of Soccer" ⚽

Congratulations to Jerome German student Heidi Kaszubowski for earning 3rd place nationally in the “Voices of the World Cup” competition, created in celebration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup coming to North America.

The contest capped an Honors German IV soccer unit that included a guest speaker from The Ohio State University’s Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures, as well as a film study of The Miracle of Bern, which chronicles Germany’s historic 1954 World Cup victory. For their final project, students created German-language commentaries for either the 1954 or 2014 World Cup wins and submitted them to the contest sponsored by the Goethe-Institut.

Heidi’s exciting commentary on the 1954 championship earned her a trip to New York City for the German Day of Soccer this June. Gratuliere, Heidi!

We now invite all community members to visit the America 250 page on our website to browse these curated works. To participate, simply note the school name and entry number of your favorite projects in each category (PK-5, 6-8, and 9-12) and cast your vote using the Community Choice Ballot between May 15–26. Winners will be announced on May 29. Thank you for helping us celebrate our students' unique contributions to the American fabric!

DCS Summer Reading

To keep our DCS students sharp and inspired, our teachers curated exciting summer reading resources designed to strengthen literacy skills. Middle and high schoolers can explore grade-level lists centered around a unifying essential question, complete with engaging activities to jumpstart discussions when they return this fall. Meanwhile, elementary families can browse our dedicated website of award-winning titles perfect for younger readers. We encourage every student to visit their local public library and grab a book that sparks their curiosity!
