Delayed start due to weather....Finalsite Attendance Calls

When the district announces a 90-minute weather delay, any attendance automatic dialers scheduled to operate before the start of the delay should not go out. For example, if you have an automated dialer set for 9:00 AM and the delay start time for your building is 9:30 AM, the calls should not be sent. To manually run your building's calls, go to Messages > Automated Messages, then scroll to the right and select the box with an arrow in it (RUN). This will manually initiate your calls after you have updated your building's attendance.

If you choose not to have your dialer send out calls at the pre-arranged time, go to Messages > Automated Messages and click on your message. De-select all buttons except for app/mobile, and no automated calls will be made. When you are ready for calls to resume, follow the same steps and select all the buttons. Depending on when you turn it back on, you may need to run the dialer manually, as mentioned earlier.

Handouts and Messaging

It's hard to believe October is already here, and the holidays are near. It’s vital to communicate the proper message about attendance to families, students, and the community. Effective messaging encourages a culture and habit of regular school attendance by explaining its importance and how everyone can help ensure students attend.

  • These tools for educators can encourage good attendance around the winter holidays.
  • These resources can help families and community members develop strategies to overcome weather-related barriers that stand in the way of getting children to school.

Wednesday, September 24, 2025: Family Engagement Lays the Foundation for Attendance and Learning

Research shows that strong engagement with families improves school attendance. But what exactly do we mean by family engagement? Family engagement is a partnership between families, educators and community groups and agencies to support the learning and development of all students. If families have a voice in the decisions that affect their children, understand what students are learning as well as the impact of attendance on their children’s well-being, believe that sending their children to school will lead to a better future, and have faith that schools will support them, they are more likely to get their students to school regularly. When schools and community groups/agencies reach out to families as partners, they are more likely to cultivate trust and develop meaningful solutions to chronic absence.

Wednesday, August 6, 2025: Student Connectedness Fosters Attendance and Engagement

  • Webinar recording
  • Download the presentation slides
  • Download the discussion guide

Research shows that building a sense of connection to school — for all students and families — is an effective strategy for preventing and reducing chronic absence and conveying the value of showing up to school every day. And school connectedness is something all schools and districts can do.

Join us for this webinar to explore how districts, schools and community partners can work together to ensure students are connected to a caring adult and their peers, create a sense of belonging and engage students in pro-social activities. We will also highlight the crucial importance of taking steps putting this in place at the beginning of the school year.

This session will provide attendees with evidence-based interventions, along with tools and resources that can improve attendance and student connectedness.
