Hello Eisenhower families,

The snow has retreated and I'm hopeful we can tuck away our snow pants and boots. This time of year is always so exciting as April is a month of transition, not just with weather, but in classrooms as we begin to bridge the gap between a year of hard work and the finish line of summer.

This is a time for us to celebrate the incredible growth our students have shown. From the blossoming reading skills in kindergarten, to the complex problem solving in 5th grade, progress is everywhere.

Later this month, our students in grades 3–5 will begin the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs).

While we use many ways to measure success throughout the year, the MCAs are a unique opportunity for our students to "show what they know." We view these assessments not as a source of stress, but as a celebration of learning.

How you can help on testing days:

1. Rest & Fuel: Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep and eats a healthy breakfast

2. The Power of Yet: Encourage a "growth mindset." The test is adaptive, so please remind your child(ren) that if a question is tough, they just haven't mastered it yet.

3. Attendance: Being at school on time helps students feel settled and ready to do their best.

With the weather warming, I know many family members would prefer to park and walk up at the end of the day for pick up. This is a friendly reminder to please stay in your vehicles and follow the pick up lane. With extra people standing in the walkway, it blocks our sight lines and impacts our ability to provide safe supervision. If you absolutely want to walk up to meet your child(ren), you can do so at the curve in sidewalk between our building and Northdale Middle School. If you choose to do so, please do not park in the Eisenhower lot as it will require crossing in front of traffic. Thank you for your understanding and help in keeping everyone safe.

In partnership and appreciation,

Lillian DeRung

Principal

Being outside and playing games can have a positive impact on your child! This month, as the weather gets nicer, focus on spending extra time outside to give your children the chance to move their body and use their imagination!

  • A 2017 study found that playing outside can support mental health and brain health (McCormick, R., 2017)

  • A study in Norway found that more time outside could lower the chance of showing ADHD symptoms (Ulset, C., Vitaro, F., Brendgen, M., Bekkhus, M., Borge, A, 2017).

  • Time spent outside helps build resilience, creativity and social skills through risk-taking and problem-solving (Unicef, 2025).

It’s that time of year that we get very busy with events and end of the year activities. Have you completed your 2025/2026 Volunteer Paperwork? Anoka-Hennepin School District #11 requires that all volunteers complete a Volunteer Application and Criminal History Release Form every school year.

Art Night, April 14th 5:30-7:30 pm -Doors open at 5:30 pm, we will have performances from the IKE Choir, Bucket Drumming, Kindergarten and the Northdale Middle School Chamber Orchestra & Fiddle Club performances along with art stations and book autor Tuba Nguyen. Dinner: Free Taco Bar provided by Acapulco. Food Truck available for purchase: Floyd’s Donuts & Shaved Ice, Egg Roll Queen and Unbakable, edible cookie dough, treats. See flyer for more details.

Watch Dogs - Is an innovative program being used by schools across America which helps them to be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers and father-figures in their student’s life. Our goal is to have you spend a day this year at the school to be a positive male role model and to provide an extra set of eyes and ears. Watch Dogs will be volunteering at recess, the lunchroom and in gym class. Your Watch Dogs day will start at 10:50 and end around 3:50 pm. After you check in at the main office your day will start in our lunchroom. While in the lunchroom you will be visiting students and helping with opening lunch items as needed. Next you will be heading outside to join students at recess. At recess please feel free to visit and play games. Your day will end at Physical Education (PE). Please feel free in joining the class, you never know what fun exercise themed event they will be working on. My favorite is the giant parachute. During the day if you have any questions please feel to ask a staff member or stop in the office.

Character Strong Character Strong

This month's trait is COURAGE. Courage isn’t about something magical that happens inside us to make us ‘not scared’. It’s about something magical that happens inside us to make us push through fear, self-doubt, anxiety, and do the things that feel hard or risky or frightening. Check in with your kids about what they have learned and how they are courageous.
