MOY ELA Assessment MOY ELA Assessment

School Data

Last week we administered our middle‑of‑year reading assessments to all students in kindergarten through fifth grade. If you haven't already, please have your child log into Schoology to show you their progress. Most of our students, if not all, know exactly how to find their scores.

I am so proud of the growth we've already seen, and we're not even done yet! If these three things continue, our student growth will only continue to SOAR like an eagle!

  1. Students attend school regularly.
  2. Teachers plan and teach high‑quality, rigorous lessons.
  3. Parents reinforce learning at home.

Let's look at these triangles. On the left is our current data. You can see that Tier 1 increased from 43% to 66%. In Tier 2, the group we targeted strategically, students decreased from 40% to 22%. Finally, Tier 3 decreased from 17% to 12%.

What we love to see is the ripple effect: students in green move higher within green, students in yellow move up to green, and students in red move up to yellow. Keep scrolling as I share the grade‑level breakdown.

Find your child's grade level. The top bar shows the current MOY test; the bottom bar shows how they began the year. These bars represent the entire grade level across the whole school. If you want to see your child's individual results, log into Schoology or contact their teacher. Use the chart below to see where your student fall on the scale. Find your child's grade level on the left and follow along to find their number score to see if they are within their grade level, behind or ahead.

MOY MATH MOY MATH

This Week

This week our students will be taking their math assessments. Please remind your child to get a good night’s sleep and come to school ready to try their best. They can have breakfast when they arrive. Check the menus I am posting below to see if you need to eat beforehand. Your encouragement makes a big difference, thank you for supporting your learner and our school community. I'm also including a quick list of to dos.

How Parents Can Support Their Child on Test Day

  • Get a good night’s sleep the night before—rest matters more than last-minute studying.

  • Eat a healthy breakfast with protein (eggs, yogurt, peanut butter) to help with focus.

  • Arrive on time so your child can start the day calm and unhurried.

  • Encourage, don’t pressure. Say things like, “Do your best—we’re proud of you.”

  • Remind them to take their time and read questions carefully.

  • Send comfort, not stress. A favorite snack, water bottle, or reassuring note can help.

  • Keep routines normal. Familiar schedules help children feel secure.

  • Stay positive after the test. Focus on effort, not scores.

Leader in Me: Habit 5 Leader in Me: Habit 5

This month we are focusing on Leader in Me Habit #5: “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” This habit helps children build stronger relationships, listen more carefully, and communicate respectfully. Here are simple ways you can practice and reinforce it at home:

Seek First to Understand Then to Be Understood

  • Model active listening. Give your child your full attention—make eye contact, put away devices, and nod or say brief acknowledgements (e.g., “I hear you”).
  • Ask open questions. Use prompts like, “How did that make you feel?” or “Can you tell me more?” to invite explanation.
  • Reflect back what you hear. Repeat or summarize (e.g., “So you’re saying…”) before offering your thoughts or advice.
  • Validate feelings. Say things like, “That sounds frustrating” or “I understand why you felt that way” to show empathy.
  • Teach “I” statements. Help children say how they feel and what they want without blaming (e.g., “I feel upset when…”).
  • Practice turn‑taking in conversations. Set aside daily moments—during dinner or bedtime—to let everyone share without interruption.
  • Role‑play scenarios. Give kids opportunities to practice listening first, then responding, using real situations from school or home.
  • Praise effort. Notice and acknowledge when your child listens well or uses the habit (e.g., “I liked how you let your sister finish speaking before you replied”).

Thank you for partnering with us to teach these important social‑emotional skills. Habit #5 strengthens family communication and helps our students become thoughtful, confident leaders.
