SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) LESSONS SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) LESSONS

zoom_out_map

When I visit with classes this month, we will be discussing self-control and ways to regulate our emotions. There are times when we get very angry or upset very quickly, and we don't always know what to do with those big emotions. While it's okay to feel the emotions, it's not always okay to act on those emotions especially if it means someone might get hurt. So, by learning ways to help control some of those big emotions, our students will start being able to recognize when they are starting to have big emotions and will have some strategies to use to help with the big emotions.

REINFORCE LESSONS AT HOME REINFORCE LESSONS AT HOME

  • When your child is calm and not upset, practice some calming strategies - deep breathing, counting to 10, squeezing a stress ball. The more you practice when your child is calm, the better chance your child will use one of these strategies when they start getting upset.
  • After your child has gotten upset about something and is calm, talk to them about what they were feeling and how they could have remained calm in the situation.
  • Talk with you child about ways you remain calm in situations that are frustrating.

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS (RAK) CALENDAR RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS (RAK) CALENDAR

Each month I will be attaching a Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) calendar to my newsletter. This calendar lists a Random Act of Kindness idea for each day of the month. I encourage you to work with your child and try to complete the kind acts throughout the month.
