Get ready for a day where friendship meets engineering! STEM Buddies is a hands-on workshop designed to pair students of all abilities for a day of teamwork, problem-solving, and tech-powered fun. By working side-by-side, our "Builder Buddies" will prove that the best innovations happen when everyone has a seat at the table.

The Mission The Mission

Students will work in inclusive pairs or small groups to rotate through three high-energy stations. Each station is designed to challenge their creativity while fostering communication and mutual support.

Station 1: The "Banana Switch" Lab

Ever turned on a light with a piece of fruit? Students will explore the basics of conductivity by using Makey-Makey kits and everyday objects (like bananas!) to complete circuits and trigger light switches or sound effects.

Station 2: Micro:bit Coding Corner

Using Chromebooks, buddies will dive into the world of "block coding." Together, they will program a Micro:bit—a tiny, wearable computer—to scroll their names in LED lights, creating a digital name tag for the day.

Station 3: Cardboard Engineering Challenge

It’s time to get hands-on with structural design. Pairs will choose from three "real-world" problems (like building a sturdy bridge, a marble run, or a mobile device holder) using only cardboard and tape. The goal is simple: brainstorm together, build together.

There is no cost for this event. Lunch will be provided. There is no cost for this event. Lunch will be provided.
