Principal's Message Principal's Message

For Third Grade Parents/Guardians:

I hope your children had a great week off to recharge and get ready for the end of the school year and all of the exciting events that we have coming up. This letter is just to let you know that all 3rd grade students at the Swift – Slaybaugh Complex will be taking the NJSLA (New Jersey Student Learning Assessments). The testing window will span from May 2nd to May 11th. During this time period, our 3rd grade students will take an assessment in both ELA (English Language Arts) and Mathematics. ELA will be administered May 2nd-4th. Students will then take the math sections May 9th-11th. We recommend getting proper rest and meals during this time period so your child will be able to put forth the best effort possible. Daily attendance during this time period is also very important.

The NJSLA test will be taken in an online format. Students will be taking this assessment using Chromebooks. The testing time for any given unit is between 60-75 minutes with the exception of special education, ELL and 504 students, who may receive additional time. Our teachers have been working diligently to incorporate the use of technology in their lessons, align current trimester assessments to model the NJSLA format, and utilize the computer labs/Chromebooks during instruction on a weekly basis.

Thank you for your support with this important part of your child’s 3rd grade school year. If you have any questions regarding NJSLA, please feel free to contact me at 609-927-8222 ext. 1101.Everyone, third grade or not, have an excellent weekend!

Sincerely,

Rachel Casumpang

Principal

Students "Flipped" for BMX Assembly

On Wednesday, April 19th, students in grades K-3 were lucky enough to enjoy a BMX assembly by Dialed Action Sports, sponsored by the Swift-Slaybaugh Parents' Club. The students enjoyed watching many exciting tricks and learning about the importance of wearing a helmet whenever they are riding their bicycles. For some of the tricks, the athletes asked for staff volunteers or staff "volun-tolds" to participate. At one point, the host asked the students to show him where their principal was, and Mrs. Casumpang was "fortunate" enough to have backflips take place above her! The students truly enjoyed this exciting experience, and we owe a big thank you to the Parents' Club for bringing this unique assembly to the complex.
