Happy Sunday, Pride!

I hope you’re doing well and enjoying this long weekend. My family and I packed up and headed to Murrells Inlet to soak up a little sunshine and rest for Labor Day.

It’s hard to believe that school started just 22 days ago. At the start of the year, we unveiled our new theme: Pride in Every Step. Today, I want to highlight three staff members who truly embody that theme and who will officially be named our September Staff Members of the Month tomorrow.

Elementary Staff Member of the Month: Ms. Siera Hilliard

Ms. Hilliard, one of our 5th grade teachers, was nominated by a colleague who shared:

“Well, for one, she left us and came back—that says a lot! Joking aside, she is very patient with her students, talks to them with respect, and truly listens when they need to talk. She is so sweet and the perfect teacher for 5th grade. With all the changes 5th graders go through, I’m so glad she is here for our students.”

Middle School Staff Member of the Month: Ms. Melissa Channell

Ms. Channell, our middle school special education teacher, was nominated by a colleague who wrote:

“Channell has truly stepped up and found her stride at Riverwalk. She has shown significant personal and professional growth and is always eager to support her colleagues with tasks such as paperwork and classroom management. She consistently collaborates with general education teachers and goes above and beyond—taking the initiative to learn new material to better support both the students and the instructional team. Even before the school year officially began, Channell was already working behind the scenes, often giving her time on weekends to help others get organized and prepared. Her commitment and proactive approach make her a very deserving Teacher of the Month.”

High School Staff Member of the Month: Coach Mark Wilson

Coach Wilson, our high school PE teacher, was nominated by a student who shared:

“He helps me with everything I need to know. He makes me feel better every day when I walk into the building.”

Please join me in celebrating these three outstanding educators. They remind us all what “Pride in Every Step” looks like in action.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend, and I’ll see you on Tuesday!

In Pride and Purpose,

~Dr. Compton
