Principal's Message

Dear Bobcat Families-

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! We are so excited to open our doors and welcome all of our returning families and new faces to our school community. Our goal this year is simple: to inspire a love of learning, foster kindness, and ensure every student feels supported every single day.

A new school year brings fresh starts, new friendships, and endless opportunities to learn and grow. The halls are filled with energy, smiles, and anticipation as we launch into another wonderful academic year. Whether your child is taking their very first steps into Kindergarten or stepping up as a leader in upper elementary, we are thrilled to walk this journey alongside your family.

We know that a strong partnership between home and school is key to student success. Throughout the year, we encourage you to stay connected, ask questions, and share in your child's milestones—big and small. Together, let's make this year our best one yet!

Thank you for trusting us with your children, and for being such a vital part of our school community. Here’s to a joyful, productive, and inspiring year ahead!

In partnership,

Julia Scott

Professional Learning Communities

To ensure every student receives the highest-quality education, the Douglas County School District is introducing a systemic schedule update. Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, all elementary and middle schools will implement a 45-minute late start on Friday mornings to provide our educators with dedicated Professional Learning Community (PLC) time.

Below are answers to common questions about what this means for your family and how it directly benefits your student.

What is changing in the 2026-2027 school year?

Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, our district-operated elementary and middle schools will have a 45-minute late start every Friday. This provides equitable, dedicated time for PLC’s across the district. This late start has already occurred in district-operated DCSD high schools for the past three years. All schools, including all high schools will have a delayed start on Friday.

Why is DCSD making this change now?

Years of educational research show that teacher collaboration is the single most effective way to improve student achievement. For students, PLCs lead to more targeted instruction. Currently, DCSD is the only large school district in the Denver/metro area that has not yet built PLC time into its elementary and middle school schedules. By implementing this dedicated time, we are aligning with other high-performing neighboring districts like Cherry Creek, Littleton, and Jefferson County, who already use weekly PLC time.

What exactly is a Professional Learning Community (PLC)?

A PLC is a structured time where teachers collaborate regularly to analyze student data, share teaching strategies, and support each other in refining their practices. It is not simply extra planning time or a block to grade papers. Instead, teachers follow a rigorous process to answer four critical questions: What do we want our students to learn? How will we know if they learned it? How will we respond if they do not learn it? How will we extend learning for students who already know it?
