Virtual Service Academy Night
The Office of Congressman Auchincloss is hosting a Virtual Service Academy Night on Tuesday, May 12th from 6:15-7:30pm. This is an opportunity for high school students in grades 9-11 to learn more about the application process for five United States Service Academies: West Point, Navy, Air Force, Merchant Marines, and Coast Guard. Pre-registration for the webinar is required. Students and parents may register for the webinar HERE. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Outreach Director directly at Catarina.Pereira@mail.house.gov or by phone at (617) 332-3333.
Recent News - Small Colleges Closing
Some AVA students and famliies may have heard recent news of a rising trend in the closure of small private colleges throughout the country, often due to financial constraints. In Massachusetts, there has been published news of Hampshire College and more recently Anna Maria College closing. The implication for college-bound/thinking high school students and families is to be cautious when enrolling/researching/applying to similar colleges that may also be at risk of a future closure.
Scholarships that are Still Open
College-bound/thinking seniors and juniors should take this time to complete any relevant last-minute applications and/or begin researching, making a list of, and applying to relevant scholarships, respectively. Here are a few quick resources:
MEFA list of June-deadline Scholarships for Seniors
MEFA list of general scholarships open to Juniors
CollegeBoard's Scholarship Search Tool
Horatio Alger Scholarships for Career/Technical Education-bound Seniors (June 15th deadline)
As always, please feel free to email me (nng@attleboroschools.com) with any questions, comments, or concerns. Have an awesome weekend!
