Principal's Message 10/23/26

Dear Doherty Families,

As we head into a weekend filled with fall fun, we wish all our Doherty families a safe and happy time together! The excitement of this season creates wonderful opportunities to make memories, enjoy time outdoors, and connect with friends and neighbors.

Whether you are trick-or-treating, attending a fall celebration, or enjoying time at home, please take a moment to review safety reminders with your children. Stay with a trusted adult, use sidewalks and crosswalks, and carry a flashlight or wear reflective items when out after dark. If costumes are part of your plans, make sure children can see clearly and move comfortably. Drivers, please slow down and watch closely for children, especially in neighborhoods and near crosswalks.

This weekend is also a chance to practice the kindness and care we encourage at school—include others, respect our neighbors’ homes and property, and remember a friendly “thank you.” Thank you for partnering with us to help our students make thoughtful, safe choices wherever they go. Enjoy a little fun and a little rest—we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday!

Best regards-

Mr. Spitzley

SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH INFORMATION SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH INFORMATION

November Lunch Menu

The Michigan School Aid Budget provides for each student a breakfast and a lunch each school day for the school year.

To ensure your child's access to meals is not interrupted and to help West Bloomfield School District secure critical state and federal funding, we need ALL families to complete the Education & Nutrition Benefits Application (formerly known as the Free & Reduced Meals Application).

Complete your application today at: https://westbloomfield.familyportal.cloud/
If you need assistance or have questions about completing the form, please contact Andrea Grobe at andrea.grobe@wbsd.org

It's quick, confidential, and critical for student support and district funding.

  • Your application helps ensure we can continue to provide nutritious meals to all students.
  • Funding tied to our free/reduced rate supports far more than meals; it impacts academic programs, technology, and student services.
  • Event if you think you may not qualify, completing the form still helps the district.

Ensuring that students are well fed throughout the school day is our top priority. Nutrition Services serves nutritious meals to students daily in all buildings. A school lunch includes an entrée, grain, fruit, vegetable, and milk.

If a doctor has determined that your child has a disability, and the disability would prevent your child from eating regular school meals, the nutrition program will make substitutions prescribed by a licensed physician at no extra charge. This includes food and milk allergies. The physician’s statement, including diet and/or substitutions, must be submitted to the nutrition office so appropriate changes can be made.
