Art Masters is Coming to Brookhaven!

We are excited to welcome Art Master Academy to Brookhaven on October 12! Students will participate in an engaging assembly that introduces them to a featured artist and their unique style of art. Throughout the week, students will build on what they learn during the assembly through hands-on classroom art lessons, exploring creativity, artistic techniques, and self-expression. We look forward to seeing our young artists bring their creativity to life!

ART MASTER: REMINGTON

American born artist Frederic Remington provided easterners with dramatic, exciting stories of the ‘Wild West.’ Scholars explore his prints and narrative paintings to discover details that ‘tell’ the story

of the works. They will also learn that Remington was a prolific writer, and most famously, the creator of 22 bronze sculptures. The studio art activity involves the creation of a colorful desert landscape using chalk pastels.

PYL Promise at Brookhaven 🐻

Living the PYL Promise at Brookhaven 🐻

At Brookhaven, we continue to bring the PYL Promise—Rooted in Connection, Ready for Tomorrow, and Stronger Together—to life through the meaningful experiences and opportunities that happen throughout our school community. This past week was filled with wonderful examples!

🌱 Rooted in Connection: We held our first School Site Council (SSC) meeting, bringing parents and staff together to collaborate, share perspectives, and support the success of all Brookhaven students. We also celebrated National Custodian Day, recognizing and thanking our amazing custodians for the care, dedication, and hard work they put into making our school a welcoming place for everyone.

🎓 Ready for Tomorrow: Our Student Council held its first meeting, giving student leaders the opportunity to develop their voices, practice leadership, and begin planning ways to make a positive difference at Brookhaven. These experiences help our students build the skills they need to become confident, responsible leaders of tomorrow.

❤️ Stronger Together: Our school community came together to wear gold in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, showing support for children and families affected by childhood cancer. We also practiced our schoolwide emergency procedures during a fire drill, reinforcing the importance of working together to keep everyone safe.

From student leadership and family partnerships to acts of kindness and school safety, these moments remind us that the PYL Promise is more than words—it is something we live every day at Brookhaven.

Rooted in Connection. Ready for Tomorrow. Stronger Together. ❤️🐻

Character Trait of the Month

October: Respect

Students believe that the well-being and dignity of all people is important simply because they are fellow human beings and they treat every individual with respect.

Key Beliefs:

I will be a better student if I act on the following beliefs:

I will treat others the way I want to be treated.
It is important to treat everyone with respect, even if I feel they don’t deserve it.
I need to treat everyone the same by accepting their differences, whether they are my friends or people I don’t know very well.
I must respect the personal space of others and keep my hands to myself.
It is important for people to be included.

Self-Discipline Winners!

Congratulations to our students who were nominated for displaying self-discipline.

Brookhaven Bears Say NO to Bullies!

Effective bullying prevention efforts involve students, parents, teachers, and community members.

A community-wide effort shows students that adults care what happens to them and that they are not alone.
According to the (Center for Disease Control), promising elements of bullying prevention programs include:
- Multi-tiered systems of support, which includes universal programs or activities for all youth within the community or school; selective interventions for groups of youth at risk for being involved in bullying; and preventive interventions tailored for students already involved in bullying.
- Multicomponent programs that address multiple aspects of bullying behavior and the environments that support it. Examples include examining school rules and using behavior management techniques and social emotional learning in the classroom and throughout the school to detect and provide consequences for bullying.
- School-wide prevention activities that include improving the school climate, strengthening supervision of students, and having a school-wide anti-bullying policy.
- Involving families and communities by helping caregivers learn how to talk about bullying and get involved with school-based prevention efforts.
- Developing long-term school-wide approaches that strengthen youth’s social-emotional, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Focusing on program fidelity by forming an implementation team to make sure the programs are carried out exactly as they were designed.
