Email sent to families on 8/15
Dear Mote Families,
We want to inform you of a recent arrest of a retired Mote teacher, following an ongoing investigation by the Delaware State Police. While this individual has not been employed by our district and school for over a year, we understand that this news is deeply troubling, especially as we begin a new school year. Please know that at Mote, the safety and well-being of your children is always our highest priority.
We are committed to maintaining a school environment where every child feels safe, supported, and cared for. Our staff is dedicated to protecting students and ensuring that Mote remains a place of trust and learning. We will continue to receive training and support so we are prepared to recognize and respond swiftly to any concerns.
Red Clay has partnered with the Beau Biden Foundation, who will provide a series of training sessions and informational meetings for school leaders, staff, and families to reinforce prevention, awareness, and reporting.
Thank you for trusting us with your children each day. Together, as a community, we will keep their safety at the center of everything we do.
With care,
Lauren Young, Principal
Safety
Safety remains our top priority. Our staff is ready to meet the needs of all of our students, academically, socially, and emotionally.
- All exterior doors remain closed and locked at all times.
- All classroom doors are locked, although may be propped while the students and staff are in the classrooms.
- All non employees must access the building through the front office only where they are screened prior to entry. All adults must have id to sign out a child.
- We have a counselor, Dr. Johnson, assigned to grades K-2 and a counselor, Mrs. Nye, assigned to grades 3-5. We also a full time psychologist, Mr. Kupelian, a part time psychologist, Dr. Teaford, and a part time psychologist intern, Ms. Vanderloo.
If you have any questions about safety and security, please email lauren.young@redclay.k12.de.us.
Infinite Campus
Please be patient with our front office staff, teachers, admin, nurse, and transportation as we all learn to navigate this system with you.
Transportation is working hard to correct any errors, set up transportation for new students, and make necessary changes due to IEPs. It is one department working for the entire district so changes will take longer than normal. Please make arrangements to provide your own transportation while waiting for bus information to be sent to you.
