Principal's Desk
Dear CMIT South Elementary Families,
As we enter the final stretch of our academic year, I want to take a moment to commend our incredible students and thank you, our supportive parents and guardians, for your continued partnership in education. Your dedication to your children's learning journey inspires us daily.
Winston Churchill once said, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." Our students have embodied this spirit of perseverance throughout the year, particularly our 3rd-5th graders who recently completed their MCAP assessments. Let's give them all a big round of applause for their hard work and determination!
Weekly Schedule Reminder
Please ensure your child follows their B-Week/Week 2 schedule for Creative Arts (CARTS) classes this week. As we approach the end of the school year, maintaining consistent routines becomes even more important for student success.
Assessment Update
With MCAP testing now complete for our 3rd-5th grade students, we are currently administering iReady and Dibels assessments. These important evaluations help us measure growth and ensure each student receives appropriate academic support. Please encourage your child to get plenty of rest and arrive at school ready to do their best.
Critical Safety Reminders for Morning Drop-Off
IMPORTANT SAFETY CONCERN: We have observed some concerning situations during morning drop-off that require immediate attention from all families. Student safety is our highest priority, and we need your help.
Please adhere to the following protocol:
Staff supervision begins at 7:25 a.m. precisely
Students must remain in vehicles until staff members are visibly present outside
Never leave your child unattended outside the building โ this creates a significant safety risk
Unsupervised students are vulnerable to various hazards, especially in the parking lot area
URGENT SAFETY NOTICE FOR MORNING ENRICHMENT FAMILIES: We have observed a dangerous situation developing during morning drop-off that requires immediate correction. Parents and guardians of morning enrichment students, please be aware that:
Vehicles are STRICTLY PROHIBITED in the designated student walking lane after 7:20 a.m.
Driving in this pedestrian area creates a serious safety hazard for students who are walking to the building
Please use only the designated vehicle lanes for morning drop-off
The safety of our walking students must be prioritized by all members of our community
Your cooperation is not just requested โ it is essential for maintaining a safe environment for our entire school community. We appreciate your understanding that these policies exist solely to protect our students.
Uniform Update
We are excited about our transition to the new school logo! Please note the following guidelines:
All new incoming students must purchase uniforms featuring the new logo
Current students may continue wearing uniforms with the previous logo throughout their time at CMIT South
When purchasing new uniforms for the upcoming school year, please select items with the new logo
Our uniform vendor has been updated with the new logo options
As always, we appreciate your support in maintaining our school's uniform standards, which help foster a sense of community and pride among our students.
Looking Ahead
The final weeks of school are filled with important learning opportunities and special events. Please continue checking your email and our school website regularly for updates. Your involvement in these final weeks makes a tremendous difference in your child's educational experience.
As we look ahead to the final weeks of school, remember that the STEM Journey Begins Here at CMIT South Elementary! Let's continue to fill this school year with exciting learning opportunities, personal growth, and impressive achievements for all our scholars. Every day brings new opportunities for growth and your partnership in education makes a profound difference in our students' success. We thank you for making CMIT South Elementary a vibrant and supportive learning community. Together, we're creating meaningful experiences for our scholars! Students are not earning the grades that we expect due to lack of work completion. Students are given opportunities to make up work in class but some do not take advantage of this. As the school year comes to a close students will continue to receive and be expected to submit work by the due date. Make-up work is only provided if a scholar has an excused absence.

We are helping students to be more reflective about their days and ways they can make improvements. This is the last quarter of Fourth Grade and our scholars have made great progress and are beginning their preparations to become the building leaders next year.
The character trait of the month of May is Perseverance. At times a task can be difficult but we think of ways we can persevere or find a way through. Students will have lessons in class around perseverance and how to overcome challenges we might face. Ways you can help is to share with your scholar times when you have shown perseverance in the face of adversity.. Please continue to read to get updates and important information from Fourth Grade.

Technology: Kindergarten โ 3rd Grade
Our younger students have been busy learning how to identify and label key parts of a physical computer setup. From power cords and power strips to the mouse and keyboard, students are building confidence in troubleshooting simple tech issues on their own. This hands-on practice supports foundational computer literacy and independence.
4th & 5th Grade
Our upper grades have been diving into MLA format. This weekโs focus has been on creating a proper Works Cited page and using in-text citations. Weโre using tools like EasyBib and MyBib to help students format sources correctly and build strong research habits for future writing assignments.
Maker's Lab:
This week in Makers Lab, students worked on a collaborative project to create paper rooms. Each student designed and built their own room using only white construction paper, cutting and assembling paper furniture to bring their ideas to life. Once complete, all the individual rooms will be combined to form one large, unified paper house. It was a fun and creative project that showcased both imagination and teamwork.

KVS
KVS is our school's dismissal tool for car riders. All parents MUST fill out their KVS number when picking up their scholar. It is imperative that numbers are entered once you reach the car line. If your scholar is a car rider, please take time to help him or her practice memorizing his or her number as this will make the dismissal process much quicker!
