Glenwood
This Week's Scouting Report
Thursday January 15, 2026
Hey Glenwood Families,
January continues to fly by! While our Eagles couldn’t get past the 49ers to keep our winter excitement going, we’ll proudly continue to rock our Glenwood green on Fridays and turn our attention to cheering on the Sixers and Flyers.
The new year is a natural time for reflection and provides us with an opportunity to revisit, reteach, and strengthen our practices. Since returning from winter break, teachers have been reviewing our Glenwood expectations, and I have been so impressed by our students, our staff, and the strong routines and positive culture that are clearly in place.
Thank you again for the incredibly warm welcome. Joining the Glenwood community has been a refreshing reminder of why I love serving as an elementary principal. I look forward to meeting many of you next week at our Meet and Greet and am excited to continue building relationships with our families, just as I’ve enjoyed getting to know your children.
January is also an important time to assess student progress. Over the next few weeks, students will participate in a series of assessments that help us better understand their learning, guide our instruction, and provide differentiated supports as needed. We appreciate your support in encouraging students to put forth their best effort.
As you will see below, please be sure to stay up-to-date with all the happenings below. Have a great week!
Best,
Josh Rehak, Principal

NO ANIMALS ON CAMPUS
We love animals... but we must be mindful not everyone shares the same fondness or comfort level.
For the safety of our students (including allergies) and to maintain a clean environment, please do NOT bring animals on school property, especially during student arrival or dismissal.
Exceptions are made for trained service animals as required by law.
Glenwood Happenings
1st Grade Updates
.
First graders are counting past 100! Students practiced “counting on” by playing a dice game with a friend. Students added to move their game piece all the way to 120! Students are also using counting collections to organize and count numbers all the way to ONE HUNDRED!
.
First graders continue to practice their math strategies and math facts on their Chromebooks by using websites like My Math Academy. The “Shapeys” are a band of geometric characters who help kids explore early math concepts like shapes, rhythm, and problem-solving through songs and adventures.
Yeti, Set, Goal! Miss Atkinson’s class talked about New year resolutions and goal setting.
.
First graders studied plant superpowers in science. In this lesson, students examine structures like roots, branches, and leaves that keep trees from blowing down. Students use these observations to create their own tree-inspired umbrellas that stay up in the wind.
.
In our CKLA Reading Domain, Charting the World, the first graders have been exploring geography. Here the students are making a map of our classroom complete with a compass rose. Using the cardinal directions: North, South, East, and West (Never Eat Soggy Waffles) the students can direct their classmates to different areas of the classroom.
