Music
Dear Parents,
Happy Fall! This Month in Music we have been celebrating the arrival of Fall with some songs, games, and dances like โSpider on the Floorโ and โShake them โSimmons Downโ. We are looking forward to "Super Turkey" making an appearance.
Grades K-1 are still singing tunefully, tapping a steady beat, and learning about tempo and music contrasts like high and low. Our new concepts are rhythm and steady beat. We are identifying how many sounds are on a beat. We are using many different classroom percussion instruments to perform like shakers, rhythm sticks, tambourines, and drums.
2nd grade is still learning about instrument families and reading rhythm notation, but we have started using our Xylophones and Metallophones! We are making beautiful music with our familiar songs.
3rd and 4th graders started mallet instruments, and have performed borduns, ostinatos, and have improvised! We have enjoyed providing musical sounds to our familiar songs.
4th Grade took a trip to the Houston Symphony on October 27th! It was an amazing event. As a follow up to that performance, the symphony will be sending some representatives to meet with all of our 4th graders here at Rees on November 19th.
The Rees Choir had a busy October including a Taylor High School Parade, and our wonderful performance at our Rees PVAA โInformanceโ on October 22rd! They again performed beautifully at the Camden Park Festival on Saturday, October 24th. Our final October performance was at Alief Proud on October 31st! We were able to showcase our beautiful new choir shirts at these events and the students looked and sounded amazing! Thank you for coming out and supporting all of the Fine Arts students. We could not do it without your dedication. This month we will be preparing for our Winter Showcase! Have a great month!

Theatre
Happy Fall!
Rees Theatre Company had an eventful October. We performed in the 25th Alief Taylor High School Parade and performed an excerpt from Junie B. Jones at the INFORMANCE.
All students were introduced to the character and songs from Junie B. Jones.
During the month of November, we will read the play JUNIE B. JONES the musical Jr. We will act out the characters and learn important social and emotional skills while reading about Junie B.'s interactions with her parents and school friends. The goal is for all students to learn to work together and understand how to solve problems.
Thank you,
Ms. Aisha Ussery, M.Ed.

Dance
Dear Rees PVAA parents,
In November, all dance classes are reinforcing their dance vocabulary, skills, and technique with ballet. Grades K-2 are moving through the 1st-3rd positions of the arms and feet, while grades 3- 4 are using 1st-5th positions. Dancers are practicing ballet combinations to become mindful and aware of how they move their bodies through the dance space. This includes learning and describing different movement qualities and making connections to the skills that they are learning. The Shyne Project is teaching hip hop to selective 3rd-4th grade classes and the Shooting Stars Dance Team.
