From Principal Lakin's Desk
Hello Davisburg Community,
We have officially wrapped up Week 2 of the 2026–2027 school year, and what a great start it has been at Davisburg Elementary!
As I shared before the start of the year, our theme this year is “Leveling Up!” As a lifelong gamer, I drew inspiration from my favorite video game system of all time, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), and its famous phrase, “Now you’re playing with power. Super power!”
For Davisburg, that became:
Students: “Now You’re Learning with Power. Super Power!”
Staff: “Now You’re Teaching with Power. Super Power!”
Now that we are two weeks into the year, I am excited to see Leveling Up beginning to take shape throughout our building. It is more than a theme. It is about challenging ourselves, growing each day, supporting one another, and finding joy in learning.
Our reenergized LEAD program is already off to a strong start. Students are earning red tickets and Positive Behavior Referrals for demonstrating our LEAD expectations throughout the school day. Those tickets are also filling our schoolwide container as students work together toward a whole-school reward. Later this month, we will bring back our LEADers of the Month assemblies to recognize students who consistently demonstrate what it means to LEAD at Davisburg.
Our first two weeks have also reminded us that Leveling Up means coming together when things do not go according to plan. On September 3, our building unexpectedly lost power, requiring an early dismissal. Our teachers, support staff, and noon supervisors did a tremendous job keeping students calm and safe while working together to get everyone home. Jannie and Courtnie continued contacting families after buses and car line ended to ensure every remaining student made it safely home. I could not have been prouder of how our Davisburg team responded.
As part of our commitment to continually Level Up, our staff is also taking a close look at our afternoon car line procedures. We are discussing some potential changes designed to improve the safety, efficiency, and overall experience of dismissal for our students, families, and staff. Our goal is to finalize those plans over the coming week and share a separate communication with families next Friday, September 18, outlining the changes and what families will need to know. I appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to make this process the best it can be.
Most importantly, after two weeks, our classrooms are settling into routines, relationships are being built, and our students are learning what it means to be part of the Davisburg community. There is a great deal of learning and growing ahead of us, but I am excited about the foundation we have already established.
Thank you to our students, staff, and families for helping make these first two weeks such a positive start. Leveling Up takes all of us, and I am looking forward to seeing just how far we can go together this year.
Two weeks down, and we’re just getting started. Davisburg is Leveling Up!
Have a wonderful weekend!
