Varsity Blitzes Greeley West

Monarch waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They claimed a resounding 48-8 win over the Greeley West Spartans. The result was nothing new for the Coyotes, who have now won five contests by 20 points or more so far this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monarch to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malakhi Payne, who rushed for 126 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries. Payne's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 121 rushing yards. Another passer making a difference was Nico Rizzello, who threw for 115 yards and one TD while completing 83.3% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Monarch was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 260 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 208 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.

Monarch's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Greeley West, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Junior Varsity Highlights

  • Monarch's defense shined in a 20-0 shutout!
  • Sebastian Stokes (#46) had a breakthrough performance with a touchdown and interception!
  • Lucas Bussard had a touchdown in the second quarter on a breakaway run.
  • Marek Maciszewski had a touchdown throw in the 4th quarter to Ryan Lehrer to seal the victory!

Volleyball Senior Night this Friday, Oct 24

The girls varsity volleyball team lost to Frederick High School last Thursday, despite a strong performance by the team. After losing the first set 20-25, Monarch came back to win the second set 25-19, propelled by Kate Shima (11) on offense. The Coyotes kept it close in the third set but couldn’t pull ahead, losing 23-25. The fourth set was even closer, with the teams trading several match points, but the Coyotes ultimately lost 28-30. The team was aided by strong offensive performances from Mia Reilly (11) , Ava Maliawco (12) and Emi Zarske (11) as well as strong serve receive by Amelia Van Nelson (10). The Coyotes hit the road on Tuesday to take on Mead in what promises to be another close match!

On Friday, the Coyotes will honor their 4 senior players at the final home game of the season: Anya Prater, Maya Grider, Ava Maliawco and Eva Becht. The senior night ceremony will take place immediately after the JV game, before the Varsity warm up.

Girls Rugby Ramping Up for State

Our Monarch Girls Rugby team wrapped up Week 6 of the Rugby Colorado Fall 7s season with another dominant performance on the pitch. The Coyotes battled through challenging winds to remain a top contender heading into playoffs.

Allowing just 14 points in the tournament, Monarch edged out Valor 24-0, powered past the Hammers 29-14 and closed the day with a decisive 22-0 victory over the Summit Tigers. The team’s ability to adapt their strategy and maintain composure in difficult weather proved key to their success.

With their consistent play throughout the season, the Monarch girls are heading into playoff week well-positioned for a run at the state championship title. Come out and cheer on the Coyotes this Saturday at Regis Jesuit for finals week!

Monarch Soccer Fights Through Tough Week, Eyes Strong Finish

Varsity

A tough week for the Coyotes as they faced two strong opponents. A home loss to #7-ranked Fairview on Tuesday night by two goals was followed by another setback Thursday against Horizon, falling 2-0. With two games left—both at home—our postseason hopes now rest on finishing strong and securing results in each of those matches.

JV
Against Fairview on Tuesday, Monarch took an early lead with a goal from Josh before the Knights equalized for a 1-1 final. On Thursday, after a tough first half versus Horizon, the team roared back with an explosive second half—Mark opened the scoring and Josh added two more for a 3-1 victory.

C Team
What a week for the C team! They battled hard in three games—starting with a narrow 3-2 loss to Fairview and a tough 4-0 defeat to Ralston Valley. But Friday night under the lights was a night to remember! The Coyotes came out firing and earned a commanding 5-1 win over Kent Denver. Goals came from Jake S, Elihu G, Cavan C (penalty), Blake B, and Jace M. It was their best performance of the season—a confident, spirited display that sets the tone perfectly for the final stretch!

Tuesday, Oct. 21 is Senior Night as JV and Varsity face Erie at 4 and 6pm, respectively. Come support the Yotes!
