Vision Statement:

Science in Action: 3D Biogeochemical Cycle Models
Mrs. Engler’s science students recently brought their learning to life by creating 3D models of biogeochemical cycles, including the water cycle, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle. This hands-on project helped students deepen their understanding of these essential natural processes and their impact on our environment.
The models are now on display outside Mrs. Engler’s classroom, showcasing the creativity and scientific knowledge of our students. Be sure to stop by and check out their impressive work!
Connection to Strategic Priority: Teaching and Learning

Drug Prevention & Awareness: A Community Partnership
As part of our commitment to fostering a safe and informed school community, on March 21, Mercer School welcomed representatives from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Health for an engaging and educational drug prevention program for students in grades 9-12. Using the Fatal Vision program, students experienced the real-world effects of alcohol, opioid, and marijuana impairment through interactive activities with simulation goggles. This hands-on approach reinforced the dangers of substance use and the importance of making healthy choices.
This initiative aligns with our Board’s strategic priorities of Developing the Whole Child and Culture and Community and our "Connections" initiative, which strengthens the link between our curriculum and community partnerships. By collaborating with local experts, we are ensuring that students receive meaningful, real-life learning experiences that promote their well-being and success.
Connection to Strategic Priorities: Developing the Whole Child & Culture and Community
Developing the Whole Child: Experiences are designed to provide a range of opportunities and supports aligned with interests, aspirations, needs and overall well-being
Culture and Community: A culture of partnership, inclusivity and positive relationships, both inside and outside the school, supports students, staff, and the community. Stakeholders actively participate to achieve a shared vision of success.
Staff Development Focuses on Engaging Instructional Strategies
During our recent half-day staff development, Mercer teachers had the opportunity to learn from instructional coaches at CESA 12 about the engagement strategy of reciprocal teaching. This research-based approach encourages students to take an active role in their learning through predicting, questioning, clarifying, and summarizing—key skills for deep comprehension and critical thinking.
This professional learning aligns with our Board’s strategic priority of Teaching and Learning, ensuring that educators continue to implement effective strategies that enhance student engagement and provide rigorous learning experiences. By refining instructional practices, we are committed to fostering a dynamic and supportive learning environment for all students.

Support the Class of 2025
The Mercer Senior Class of 2025 is having a Flamingo Flocking Fundraiser to raise money for their trip to South Padre Island, TX!
For this fundraiser, people can donate to have a group of pink plastic flamingos placed on someone else's lawn as a surprise, essentially "flocking" their yard. Those who have been “flocked” will then have the option to "flock" a new yard (within Iron County) by donating. Flamingos are moved each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays until Graduation. If you are “flocked” you will receive a flyer from the seniors giving you further information and instructions!
Mercer Education Foundation Seeking New Members

Attendance Matters
For children and teens, attending school isn’t just about getting an education. It’s about developing their whole selves—emotionally, socially, and personally.
Attending school regularly and in person gives students the ability to follow daily routines, as well as connect with friends, peers, teachers, and others outside their family circle. They’re able to engage and interact, to use their brains and try new things. They can be part of a team. They have a purpose.
Help your child be their best self. Promote good attendance.

Building a Culture of Partnership
At Mercer School, we are committed to fostering a culture where partnerships, belonging, and positive relationships thrive. That’s why we are proud to highlight "Connections: Linking Community and Curriculum", a vital initiative aligned with our strategic priority of Culture and Community.
The goal of this initiative is simple yet powerful: to bring together students, staff, families, and community members to create a supportive and welcoming environment. By encouraging active participation from all stakeholders, we are working to achieve a shared vision of success that benefits everyone.
Through "Connections," we aim to:
- Build strong partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and families.
- Foster positive relationships within the school and beyond.
- Ensure that all voices are heard and included in decision-making processes.
- Create opportunities where community expertise enriches classroom learning and vice versa.
This initiative is not just about collaboration—it’s about creating a culture where every student, staff member, and community partner feels valued and empowered to contribute to our shared vision. Together, we can build a brighter future by linking what we do in school with the resources and strengths of our community.
We invite you to join us on this journey. Whether by volunteering, sharing your expertise, or attending school events, your involvement makes a difference. Let’s work together to strengthen our connections and create lasting opportunities for our students and community!
