National Hispanic Heritage Month
The official 2026 theme for National Hispanic Heritage Month is “Unidos, Somos Más” (translating to "Together, We Are More").
The National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers selected the theme to emphasize unity, collective strength, and shared values. It highlights the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities while calling for mutual support and community empowerment.
Notable Hispanic Figure in history
Olga E. Custodio: Custodio was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and served in the United States Air Force for 24 years. She made history as the first Latina US Military pilot. Upon retiring from the military, she became the first female Hispanic commercial airline captain of American Airlines.
National Teen Driver Safety Week
Real friends remind friends to buckle up. Before you hit the road, take a quick look around and make sure everyone is wearing their seat belt. Whether you’re in the front seat or back seat, everyone should buckle up on every trip.
Students With Driving Lessons
Students who take Behind the Wheel classes through a local driving school must have a parent call them in each time, just like any other request for a student to leave school. We are not affiliated with any driving school and they do not communicate with us regarding lessons nor do they let us know of any cancellations or changes in regard to weather.
Also, because we do not offer driver's ed classes, these absences do count toward student's 10 days and are parent excused as long as they are within those ten days.
If you are looking for possible Driver's Education classes, including Behind the Wheel, these are companies that have let us know they are in our area:
- Cruisin' Safely at https://www.cruisinsafely.com/drivers-education
- Ries Driving School at https://riesdrivingschool.com/
