October 2026
Math
Pre-Algebra is finishing up Exponent Laws and Scientific Notation. Our unit test is October 6th. We will then start our unit on solving multi-step equations.
IA-Algebra will be covering Inequalities with a unit quiz on October 12th. Then we will start our unit over Linear Equations.
English
Leading up to fall break, English is wrapping up our Narrative unit. Students are composing original first-person narratives as the final project for the unit, applying the narrative techniques and writing skills we have been practicing throughout the past several weeks. IA English students will also complete an additional mini-project that combines the technology trends of today with the trends of the 1960s and the characters from The Outsiders.
After fall break, we will jump into a two-week mini-unit on horror, wrapping up just in time for Halloween! Students will read and analyze several short stories, including Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart,” while exploring the techniques authors use to create suspense, tension, and fear. The unit will culminate in unique horror story projects that give students the opportunity to put those techniques into their own writing.
US History
Science
8th Grade Science is finishing up with Unit 2 on Gravitational Forces. Unit 3 will begin the second week of October with Earth's Place in the Universe. This will take us through the end of October.
Spanish
Spanish classes are wrapping up Unit 1 (I can talk about who I am). We will be testing on Unit 1 Oct 1-2.
We will begin Unit 2 (I can talk about my classes, school supplies, and numbers).
Be on the lookout for the Unit 2 project - Mi Horario (My schedule) that we will be working on during the month of October (check Canvas for specific due dates)
Counselor's Corner
Happy Fall! October is a great time to pause, reset, and check in. The excitement of a new school year has settled in, and students are finding their routines, navigating friendships, managing responsibilities, and figuring out what works best for them. Students completed their SAEBRS assessment last month during advisory and we are wrapping up SOS (Signs of Suicide) in the next few days. It has been a busy school year thus far! As always, please reach out if you need anything!
