Spring SEL Survey

May 18, 2023

Spring SELSurveyMay 18, 2023

One of our three strategic goals in the Haddonfield School District is nurturing social-emotional learning and well-being. Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. SEL does not teach students what to think but helps them develop the skills to communicate their ideas, listen respectfully to different perspectives, and make responsible decisions after analyzing data and facts.

To learn more about student experiences in Haddonfield and to measure the impact of current SEL initiatives, we will ask for your student’s feedback (grades 3-12 only) via an online survey that will be completed at school in late May and early June (see chart below). The survey will be administered in two sessions; each shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes. This is the same/similar survey administered annually since 2019; we aim to measure the impact of the district’s SEL initiatives at the individual student and whole-school levels. You may view previous results here.

The information collected in the surveys will inform teaching practices and help us improve our school environments. School climate teams will analyze the anonymized data to identify short, medium, and long-term goals.

We ask that all of our students participate in the surveys. Their feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and affect how we can improve our district’s policies and practices. We are again partnering with a third-party vendor, Panorama Education, to support us in administering these surveys. The survey responses will be confidential and shared only with parents and school personnel. You can view Panorama’s privacy policy here.

The survey encourages students to reflect on their mindsets and approaches to learning. If your student doesn’t have enough information to answer a question, they can skip that particular item altogether. You may click here to view the survey questions.

What We'll Do With the Information

The results of the Student Competency Measures will be shared with parents via Genesis within 30 days of survey administration and only shared with school personnel who have an educational interest in your student (e.g., counselor, teacher of record); the data for School Environment is only collected as summary data (not personally identifiable) and will be shared during a public BOE meeting, as well as shared through the HSD newsletter.

Parent Opt-Out

If you would like to opt-out your student from completing this year's survey, please complete this form by Thursday, May 25, 2023. Please note that this form is configured to send an email confirmation when an opt-out has been successfully submitted; if you do not receive a confirmation, your submission was not received.
