Weekly Update for December 8th-December 12th
Jaguars,
Hope you enjoyed that little funny visual...but please no jingle smacking or hiding this week! LOL...there might be some hot cocoa later in the week though! Remember, calm is contagious. I found myself having to use those 4 CKH questions with some 5th graders last week. It sure helped me not to use the teacher voice inside my head.
Learning is a gift that can’t be wrapped or taken away. Just as the Grinch learned that Christmas didn’t come from a store, students learn that true learning comes from curiosity and effort. When we see learning as a gift, it helps our minds—and our hearts—grow. 💚📚. Let's help our students keep unwrapping the wonder of learning through student engagement!
We have completed 40% of the school year! Before you know it, we will be at the end of the first semester. 10 more instructional days and half the school year will be over! Stay focused on the intentionality of our Tier 1 instruction and connecting with our students.
As we continue to focus on excellence in the classroom, let's leverage our students fully engaging and building responsibility through GRIT and being goal focused! Our students are capable of GREATNESS! We can help them build this through teaching them strategies to engage. Think about these:
- Ask students to restate the target in their own words
- Require students to write an idea before sharing
-
Randomly select students to share to promote effort
-
Use sentence stems to boost clarity:
-
“I think __ because __.”
-
“I agree with __ but would add __.”
Assign student roles (facilitator, evidence finder, summarizer)
-
Use accountable talk stems
- Provide “talk moves” posters for independence
Which strategy will shift more responsibility from teacher led to student led learning?
Important Tasks to keep on your dashboard--
1. At Risk Forms due in Eduphoria on December 10th.
2. Report Card comments due to your appraiser by December 12th
3. Get those grades updated in your gradebook. There should not be an y "E" or missing grades from the beginning of the nine weeks.
4. Communicate to parents early if students are likely to fail on the report card. Send an email to communicate clearly with parents to check HAC.
5. CKH Survey-Did you finish yours yet?

Attendance Matters
Let's push daily attendance of 95% or better!
- Calculate your daily attendance and post on your door with the CLASS!
- Welcome students that are absent excitedly! Let them know they are missed! Could this be a student job? "Welcome back...let me show you what we did yesterday!"
- Communicate your daily attendance on Class Dojo or whatever messaging system you use!
- Plan a 10 minute dance party for Friday or FREE time with friends if your class meets an attendance GOAL.
Our goal is to have 95% or better average daily attendance! Last week's average daily attendance was 94.18% which is a slight decrease from the week before. Let's keep it improving.
Let's keep reaching for at LEAST 95% this week!
Let's keep pushing our communication and motivation for students to be in school.
Ms. Munoz's class had the highest attendance rate for the month of November with 98% attendance. We now have a special Clifton Park Attendance Award that stays with your classroom for a month!

Capturing Kids Hearts
Responsibility is the character trait for the month of December!
Responsibility in Action:
- Give students roles and responsibilities. When students have a leadership role in class, they are accountable for contributing positively to the classroom culture.
- Empower students with self-management tools. Provide students with tools to help manage stress and impulsivity while motivating them to meet goals.
- Clearly communicate consequences. Empower students to make choices and experience the consequences of their actions, both positive and negative.
CKH Challenge: Take pictures or short videos of your students being a Social Contract Affirmer, Social Contract Rater, or Leading Good Things in your classroom. The ADMIN team would love to give you a brief break by reading to your class this month. Just send your pictures or videos to Dr. Haider, Mrs. Holley, or Ms. Davis.
