November Edition
A Note from the Principal
During the month of November, we will host several fun events! Beginning with Veterans Day, we will host our annual Veterans Day Program on Monday, November 10th at 1:00 PM. We ask that students wear patriotic colors to support our Veterans. Guests are welcome, but please note that due to our Veterans and student/staff population, seating is extremely limited. Students are expected to return to class at the conclusion of the program and should not check out. Veterans are invited to stop by our Gym Lobby at 12:30 PM for refreshments.
On Thurday, November 20th, our PE Department will host an Alabama v. Auburn flag football game. Teams will consist of staff and 5th/6th grade students. We ask that students contribute $1 to attend the event and $2 if they wish to wear a hat.
PTO will host a 4th & 5th grade Color Clash at the Skate Center! If your child plans to attend this event, parents are expected to stay and supervise their student.
In closing, as the season of Thanksgiving is now here, I wanted to share how thankful and grateful I am to serve as your child's principal. I pray that each of you has a blessed Thanksgiving season.
If I can ever be of assistance to you, please call, email, or stop by! GO FALCONS! đź’™
Sincerely,
Mrs. Fowler, Principal

Grade Level Updates
Kindergarten
1st Grade
First graders have been busy little learners! In reading, we’ve been exploring new sound spellings, practicing how to write complete sentences, and learning all about cycles—it’s been exciting to see their curiosity bloom!
In math, students have been using different strategies to add within 20, consistently practicing their friends of 10 facts, and having a blast singing our doubles song to help those facts stick!
We’re so proud of how hard our first graders are working and growing each day!
2nd Grade
3rd Grade
It is hard to believe that it is already November. This month students will be completing our unit on Extreme Weather. As a culminating project, they will be writing an informative piece about a chosen type of Extreme Weather. Our next Reading unit is called A Changing Nation. Students will discuss different ways change is demonstrated in our communities and how change teaches us about our past. We are also very excited about the upcoming classroom Spelling Bee. Please study the word list with your child!
In Math students will be completing lessons on Area. We will begin discussing how to round to the nearest ten and hundred in the next few weeks. Students should also continue practicing their multiplication facts at home! Thank you for all of your support at home.
4th Grade
Our Montgomery trip is March 11th. The first payment is due by November 14th in order to reserve your spot.
In math, students will start dividing numbers with 3 and 4-digit dividends using area models. This is a very challenging process, but we know the students will excel at this math skill! Remember parents, knowledge of basic multiplication facts is key to your child's math success when problem-solving larger equations.
We have learned about several famous scientists, Rube Goldberg, and the Wright Brothers recently in Reading. Next, we will close up our science reading unit with a story about John Glenn and an autobiography about a trip into space! We are very excited to soon be reading new stories about our heritage and history in Unit 3!
5th Grade
6th Grade
Our sixth graders had an incredibly productive and engaging month, diving deep into exciting topics across all subjects!
🧠Math
Students became masters of early algebra, exploring algebraic expressions and expressions with exponents. They are also sharpening their number sense by finding the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and Least Common Multiple (LCM) of number sets. They also tackled the important concept of ratios, learning how to compare quantities and solve real-world problems.
📝 Reading & Language Arts
In ELA, students enhanced their reading comprehension skills by analyzing complex texts, with a special focus on poetry. They learned to identify the theme and practice the critical skill of making inferences. A fun highlight was exploring figurative language (like metaphors and similes) and analyzing the author's tone to better understand the message.
🌍 Social Studies
This month took us back in time! Our classes examined the complex Causes and Consequences of World War One, including the harsh realities of Trench Warfare. We then transitioned to the vibrant culture of the Roaring Twenties and celebrated the artistic and intellectual explosion of the Harlem Renaissance.
🔬 Science
Students were focused on how energy moves around our planet. We studied the continuous process of the Water Cycle and investigated the different ways thermal energy transfer occurs (conduction, convection, and radiation). This led to a fascinating look at the uneven heating of Earth’s surface and its impact on weather patterns.
Ask your student to share their favorite fact or concept from the past month—you'll be impressed!
Walkers!
Beginning Wednesday, September 10th, we will have a staff member on duty as a crossing guard from 7:00-7:30 am at the intersection by the school parking lot entrance and Forest Hills Baptist Church. The crossing guard will hold traffic so that students can safely walk onto campus. We will also have a crossing guard help students across the intersection shortly after dismissal each afternoon (estimated time between 2:35 & 2:40). Parents are encouraged to meet their walkers at the Forest Hills Baptist Church parking lot. Please know that if you choose to let your child walk home after being released to the church parking lot, dismissal traffic will still be flowing, so parents should advise their students to use caution if walking home. We will also have a staff member continue to release other walkers to the track area, but this will now be occuring between 2:35 & 2:40. Please remember that parents MUST sign the waiver below before a child is permitted to be a walker.
Permission & Waiver to Walk Home
If you live within 2 miles of the school and would like for your student to walk home in the afternoon, please contact your child's teacher and request a waiver be sent home. Students will not be allowed to walk home without a signed waiver on file in our office.
