Dear Families,

Welcome to Wiggin Street! We are so excited to welcome you to our school community and hope this update finds you well. We look forward to meeting all of our new Wiggin Street Kids! Our Back to School Open House is scheduled for Monday, August 17th from 5:30-7:30 pm.

You should have received this message via text and/or email through Instant Connect. If not, click here to create an Instant Connect account. You can also find helpful information on our school website, and if you still have questions, feel free to email me at cgrandstaff@mvcsd.us.

Our Summer Reading Program is off to a great start—but no worries if you haven’t begun yet! There’s still plenty of time to “Get Soaked in Books.” Students who meet the reading goal will be invited to an afternoon of Fun Water Games!

Here’s how it works:

  • Use the summer reading log (linked below and available on our website).

  • Track the books or pages your child reads.

  • Reading should be at your child’s independent level, but reading together also counts!

  • Please initial your child’s reading to validate progress.

  • Submit the completed log to school by August 21, 2026 to participate in the water games.

  • We’d love to see your child reading this summer—email a summer reading photo to hwaugh@mvcsd.us!

More information and links to reading logs can be found below and on our website. Don’t forget to take some time to relax in the sun with a great book!

This update is also filled with important information to help your family start the school year off right. Thank you for trusting us with your children each day. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we are Better Together, and I look forward to seeing all of you at Open House!

Have a wonderful rest of your summer!

Warmly,
Christy Grandstaff

Class rosters will be sent to parents via text and/or email through Instant Connect on August 5th. Rosters will also be posted on the front doors of Wiggin Street Elementary on that day.

Kindergarten students will be assigned to Group A or Group B for our staggered start. Please note that adjustments to group placements may occur after the initial days based on student needs and relationships formed with a particular teacher.

The Staggered Start Calendar can be found below for your reference.

Important

Make sure you have completed all enrollment forms online including required documents.

Kindergarten Staggered Start

In order to assist children in their transition to kindergarten, all elementary schools will be implementing a "staggered start" for just our kindergarten students. Please take note as to the group assigned on the class rosters and the dates they are to attend. Group A will begin on August 19th and Group B on the 20th. The A/B schedule continues through August 26th with all kindergarten students together on the 27th. Kindergarten teachers will meet the students on the front lawn on the first days, and they will walk together to class.

School Attendance School Attendance

Our doors open at 8:40, so students should not be dropped off prior to that time for safety due to supervision. Attendance is taken at 9:00, and your child's success in school depends on them being prompt, so they are ready for morning routines which can reduce student anxiety. If they are tardy for some reason, you will need to come into the office to sign them in. If they are ill and need to be absent, please call the office. A note of explanation is needed in the office upon returning to school including medical excuses if applicable.

You can send a note with your child to the office in the morning if there is a change in their pick up routine. Sometimes changes are necessary during the school day for pick up. If you have a change in the way your child needs to go home, it is preferred that you send an email to your child's teacher and Alicia, our secretary, at ahiggins@mvcsd.us. Phone calls must be made to the office before 2:00 pm if needed, so the change can be communicated.
