Forest Free Press
March - 2025

Forest families,
Our Small and Tall Coral Reef Ball was a huge success! Thank you to Sarah Dorchak that was our event chairperson. She did a phenomenal job, again this year! Also, thank you goes out to Michelle Ettaher and Nancy Ritchie that created the beautiful decor and corsages. Amber Fagerman and Emily Blankenship were, once again, an integral part of the events' success. Thank you to all of the parents that volunteered and our Parent Club for a wonderful event. Thank you to our community partners that donated so many wonderful things! A night of memories was had by all.
Please remember to send warm clothes with your child for recess. The students will be getting outside as long as it "feels like" 20 degress or above.
Please use the crosswalk in the morning! I have quite a few families that continue to cross at the far sidewalk, which causes me to have to stop traffic. This creates extra time for the cars coming in and it is not safe. YOU MUST CROSS YOUR CHILD AT THE CROSSWALK ONLY! This crosswalk is right in front of the main office doors and has the white lines that signify this. Thank you to all of the families that do use the crosswalk. It is MUCH appreciated!
Also, please do not use two rows of traffic and then cut in at the last minute. If you are dropping off, use the lane closest to the curb. If you are not dropping off, use the other row.
If you have any questions or concerns, call the office at (734) 479-2550. You can also email myself (gmeli@riverviewschools.com) or Ms. Annie (aprusakiewicz@riverviewschools.com).
Go Pirates!

February Mentoring Session
Students broke into their mentoring groups on Friday, February 14th. The topic for this month was empathy. They learned what empathy is, why it's important, and ways to start practicing empathy with others.
Empathy is when you are able to understand how someone else might be thinking or feeling about a situation. Some people say empathy is like putting yourself in their shoes and trying your best to imagine what they might be going through. Empathy is not about what you would do if you were them or how you are feeling, it's all about the other person!
- During the month of February, all the specials' teachers worked on activities in their classes with the theme of kindness. In the gym, students learned about how to keep their heart healthy so they may be able to be good sports in all their activities. They performed many heart fitness exercises along with learning different ways to be a good friend and use good sportsmanship.
- The music classes practiced a song called, "Count on Me," by Bruno Mars. This song talks about friendship, kindness and always being there for people who are special to them. The emphasis of the song is loving those around you unconditionally and under any circumstances. The students had wonderful conversations about those who they love and the distance they would go for them.
- In STEAM, the students created "Heart Art". The students read stories about being kind and being the best friend they can be to others. Once the stories are finished, the students will be taking that new knowledge and doing art projects that reflect their learning
Jump Rope for Heart starts next week
Online donations accepted.

Please remember to contact the office if your student will be absent, otherwise you will receive a robo call. Homework can be requested if the student is out for two or more consecutive days. Don't forget to send in documentation (dr/dentist notes, court paperwork, funeral excuses) to the office for absences to be documented.
District Strategic Plan
Our district leaders have updated our Strategic Plan for the next 5 years - this plan will be the focal point and road map for all decision making that will be made for instruction, building improvements, staffing, and curriculum changes. After reading, I welcome all input from you on this plan. Strategic Plan Click Here
Courtesy Clothes Closet
Are your child's clothing drawers overflowing? Does your child have clothing that does not fit any longer? We are looking for gently used items for our Courtesy Closet. Items would be available for students that need spare clothes during the school day. For those spills during lunch, in STEAM or for when students accidently fall into puddles or mud outside. Items for children in grades K-2 are in high demand. Stretch pants, running pants and leggings are most desirable. Please drop off donations to the office. Thank you so much!
Visit our "Lost & Found rack" inside the vestibule
Our Lost and Found rack is always overflowing with found items. If you feel your child has lost any items, please feel free to check out the items located in the vestibule at the main entrance before or after school.
