Malvern Families,

What a fun week we had at Malvern! Thank you to all of our families who joined us for our annual Trunk or Treat and participated in our Storybook Pumpkin Contest. Our Red Hawk families are so creative! We loved seeing all the decorated trunks, storybook pumpkins, and families enjoying time together. Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening such a success.

We are also excited about having a Malvern PTA! This is a great opportunity for our families to get involved, support our Red Hawks and staff, and help us continue building a strong school community. We would love to have you join us. Be sure to check out the PTA section of this week's Malvern Messenger for information on how to become a member and get involved.

This week is Red Ribbon Week! Our Red Hawks will have some fun dress-up days as we focus on making healthy choices and staying drug-free. Families, keep those conversations going at home! We want our scholars to understand that the choices they make matter and that making good decisions is part of taking responsibility for themselves and their future.

Here's what's happening this week at Malvern:

  • Monday, October 26 – No School for Students | Staff Development Day

  • Tuesday, October 27 – PJ Day: Dream big and rest up, heroes! Wear your pajamas to show that staying drug-free is a dream come true. | 4th & 5th Grade Alpha at Walker | MISD Community Resource Night at McKinney High School| Drills - Secure Hold & Shelter for Hazardous Material

  • Friday, October 30 – Book Character Day: Be the hero of your own story! Dress as your favorite storybook character. | October Red Hawk Rally – Families of Red Hawks receiving an award are invited to attend.

Our Student Council is also selling Boo Grams for $1! This is a fun way for our Red Hawks to spread a little kindness and brighten someone's day!

We are looking forward to celebrating our Red Hawks at Friday's rally and recognizing their hard work and accomplishments!

Thank you, families, for continuing to show up and support Malvern. Whether it's attending school events, volunteering, or encouraging your Red Hawk at home, we appreciate all you do. It takes all of us working together to make Malvern the best it can be!

Every Student, Every Day! Proud to be a Red Hawk! ❤️🦅

Atentamente,

La administración de Malvern

Dear Malvern Red Hawk Families,

This is our final week focusing on Responsibility! At home, encourage your child to practice responsibility by completing chores, following through on commitments, taking ownership of their choices, and using kind and respectful words. Remember, responsibility means making choices that help ourselves and others!

🎗️ Red Ribbon Week: Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free!

This week, we celebrate Red Ribbon Week by encouraging our Red Hawks to make healthy choices and take care of their minds and bodies. Even with Halloween festivities happening this week, it's a great time to remind children that being a hero means making choices that keep them safe and healthy!

Healthy Choices to Practice at Home:

- 🥗 Choose nutritious foods and drink plenty of water.

- 💤 Get enough sleep to help your body recharge.

- 🏃 Make time for physical activity and play.

- 💬 Talk openly about making safe choices and saying “no” to things that could harm their bodies.

- 🎃 Practice Halloween safety by staying with a trusted adult, checking treats before eating them, and being aware of your surroundings.

📣 Don't forget! Check out the included flyer for our Red Ribbon Week dress-up days and join in the fun! Students should also turn in their Red Ribbon Week pledge cards to their teachers to be entered into our exciting prize drawings!

Let's work together to help our Red Hawks make responsible, healthy choices and remember: Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free!

Respectfully,

Keeping Malvern Safe: Visitor Procedures & Security Reminders

Hello Malvern Families,

We are highlighting the procedures and safety measures in place for visiting McKinney ISD schools during the school day.

Please take a few moments to review this information and become familiar with our visitor procedures. These measures are in place to help us maintain a safe and secure learning environment while continuing to welcome our families into our school.

We are fortunate to have the support of MISD Armed Security Officers and McKinney Police Department in and around our campus. We appreciate your cooperation with our staff and security personnel as we work together to keep Malvern and all McKinney ISD schools safe.

Keeping Our Schools Safe

Aiphone, Controlled Entry Security Vestibules & Visitor Check-In/Check-Out

  • Aiphone System: When you arrive at Malvern, the Aiphone camera/intercom system allows our office staff to see and communicate with you before you enter the building. Staff will ask the purpose of your visit before providing access to the security vestibule.
  • Security Vestibule: Once the purpose of your visit has been determined, you will be allowed into the secure vestibule to complete the check-in process. Visitors must be cleared before the doors leading into the school are electronically unlocked.
  • Single Point of Entry: Our security vestibule serves as the single point of entry during the school day. This also includes students arriving late or returning from an appointment. All other exterior doors remain locked.

Entering Malvern

All visitors must check in through the Hall Pass system and be cleared before entering the main building. Every visitor, including MISD employees, must sign in and sign out. Doors between the security vestibule and the school remain locked at all times.

Hall Pass System: McKinney ISD campuses use Hall Pass to help protect students and staff. Using a visitor's identification, the system checks a national database for registered sex offenders. Campus administration and security personnel are immediately notified if the system identifies a concern.

Important Visitor Reminders

  • Bring your physical ID. You MUST present a physical ID when checking in. A paper copy or photo of your ID on your phone cannot be accepted.
  • Wear your visitor sticker. Once cleared, you will receive a Hall Pass visitor sticker. Please place it on your outer clothing where it can be easily seen by staff and security personnel.
  • Please understand if you are approached. Staff members may ask about your presence or check your visitor sticker. We appreciate your patience—our staff is doing exactly what we have asked them to do to help keep our Red Hawks safe.
  • Check out before leaving. Please return to the front office, sign out, and return your visitor sticker.

We love welcoming our families and volunteers to Malvern, and we are excited to have you in our building! Thank you for partnering with us and following these procedures each time you visit.

Keeping our Red Hawks safe takes all of us. Thank you for helping us make Malvern a safe place to learn, grow, and soar!

Manteniendo nuestras escuelas seguras

Ingreso a Malvern

Malvern Elementary Arrival & Dismissal Procedures 2026-2027 - After First Day

Safety is always our number one priority at Malvern. All procedures are written with safety in mind and are strictly enforced. Becoming familiar with arrival and dismissal procedures will promote safety, minimize frustration, and ensure a smooth year. A map is included to help understand the flow of traffic.

First rule when you arrive on campus - avoid park in front of the building during arrival or dismissal time in order to maintain the flow of dismissal for our Red Hawks. Avoid parking in fire lanes, as you will be ticketed. This will be the expectation throughout the entire school year. Please refrain from being on cell phones while in our school zones as this can also cause you to be ticketed.

Arrival

  • Car Riders use carpool lane in front of building and enter front doors (we will have Safety Flock to assist you after a few weeks of school but go ahead train your Red Hawk and exit the car, even if someone is not there to open the door)

  • Walkers enter through the front entrance doors

  • Parents may park in the west parking lot and escort children to front doors. We kindly ask that adults never drop students off in parking lots and allow them to walk through bus or car traffic lanes!

  • Please say your “good-byes” at the door. We will have all Malvern faculty on good morning arrival to assist Red Hawk in getting to their classroom safely and swiftly

  • Bus Riders and day cares use bus lanes on the west side of Malvern and enter doors on the west side of the building.

There will be many staff members outside and lining the hallways to assist students in finding their classrooms.

Any parent entering the building must sign in at the office. Parents are only permitted to enter classrooms if prior arrangements with teachers have been made.

Dismissal

There are four categories of dismissal:

  • Walk-Away Walkers are students who leave the building without adult/parent escort.

  • Walk-Up Walkers are students who are dismissed only to an adult walking to the building. Walk-Up Walkers will be dismissed from the west back door near the 2nd and 3rd grade hallway at the back of the building, and will be released only to people who have the school-issued dismissal number. Walk-Up parents may walk to school or park in west parking. You must show your school-issued number to staff.

  • Carpool Riders will be escorted to drivers who come through the carpool lane in front of the school. You must show your school-issued carpool number in front windshield of the car. We kindly ask that you keep the carpool number visible until you leave the school parking lot.

  • Bus Riders will be escorted by staff to the appropriate bus.

Any carpool or walk-up parent without an issued card will be asked to park and enter the office to show identification. We will reunite you with your child! We just want to be certain that only approved adults pick up a child. You will be given 2 cards at the beginning of the year. If those are lost, there will be a $1.00 for each additional card. This year, students will be given a backpack tag with their school-issued number. If tags are lost, the replacement fee is $2.00.

Students are in different locations throughout the building depending on how you reported to teachers that they will be going home, so it is important for parents to notify the school of any dismissal changes. If you change plans without notifying the school, be prepared to wait a few minutes for us to get your child to the new dismissal location. Important Reminder about Dismissal Changes: If you plan to change the way your child goes home, you must submit a dismissal change request form before 2:40PM on the day of the change.

You will need to complete the Daily Dismissal Form which can be found here.

We have some exciting news to share — Hawk Squad is now officially the Malvern Elementary PTA! 🎉

While our name and organization have evolved, our mission remains the same: to bring our school community together, support our amazing teachers and staff, and create meaningful opportunities and experiences for every student at Malvern.

The best part? We now have an official organization and a plan of action to make those goals a reality!

As a brand-new PTA, we're starting from the ground up, and we'd love for you to be part of building something special for our school. From teacher appreciation and classroom support to family events, fundraising, and community partnerships, there are so many ways we can make a difference together.

Here's where we need YOU!

❤️ Become a PTA Member! Membership is one of the easiest ways to show your support for Malvern. You don't have to attend meetings or volunteer to be a member — simply joining helps strengthen our organization and the opportunities we can provide.

🙌 Volunteer When You Can! Whether you have an hour to spare, want to help with an event, have a special skill to share, or are interested in taking on a bigger role, there's a place for you!

💡 Share Your Ideas! This is OUR school community, and we want to hear from you! Your ideas, talents, and connections can help shape what our PTA becomes.

You don't have to do everything to make a difference. Every little bit of support matters.

Malvern is a special place because of the families, teachers, staff, and students who make up our community. We're excited to build a PTA that reflects that spirit and ensures every Red Hawk has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you again for being one of the first to raise your hand and say, "I want to help!"

McKinney ISD Election 2026/Elecciones de McKinney ISD de 2026

Early voting has started and we encourage our community to get out and vote! McKinney ISD has 5 propositions this election. Proposition A is a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) that if approved by voters, would provide additional funding for teacher compensation and student programs. Propositions B through E will fund safety and security, fine arts, athletics, technology, facility upgrades and new schools. McKinney ISD's total tax rate will still be 3.79 cents lower than last year, and all 5 propositions can be funded within this tax rate.

Please send an extra change if clothes for your students. Accidents happen to all age groups and it’s not always a bathroom accident that requires a quick change if clothing. Food and drink spills, dirt/mud and other situations can lead to a student needing a change of clothing.

Our goal is to avoid long periods of time away from class waiting for clean clothes.

Thank you for helping keep your student in class ready to learn with a simple change of clothing packed in their backpack.

MISD School Safety

A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the uniform classroom response to any incident. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by all McKinney ISD schools and District Administration and staff. Historically, schools have taken this scenario-based approach to respond to hazards and threats. Each McKinney ISD classroom is furnished with the Standard Response Protocol poster that provides teachers with readily accessible response procedures and provides information during a crisis event. The attached handout explains Standard Response Protocol that is taught to students, faculty, and staff.

Guests: We are so glad approved guests are able to come to school at times to eat lunch with their Red Hawk. As a special guest in our cafeteria, we ask that you and your student eat lunch at the guest table and enjoy your time together. It is a treat for your guest to have that special one-on-one time with you. Thank you for understanding that only your child may dine at the guest table. You are welcome to bring food to eat together or buy food from the cafeteria. Be prepared to say goodbye as your child leaves the cafeteria. We look forward to seeing you often throughout the year. The first two weeks we do not allow visitors at lunch. These first two weeks of school allows teachers to establish routines and procedures in the cafeteria. Lunch guests are welcome starting Monday, August 31, 2026.

Visitors and Volunteers Visitors and Volunteers

Interested in volunteering in McKinney ISD for the 2026-2027 school year? Volunteer applications are being accepted for the upcoming school year. McKinney ISD requires all volunteers complete the required volunteer process each school year. Please note, MISD will not have a grace period this year for volunteers to complete their annual background check. This means you must apply and wait for your approved background check before you can volunteer on campus for the 26-27 school year.

All volunteers with McKinney ISD agree to a background check each school year prior to beginning volunteer duties. McKinney ISD is dedicated to making sure that all students have the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and secure environment.

The volunteer application process is just one effort used by the school administration to help make our schools safe.

VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS MAY TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS TO BE PROCESSED.

To apply, click the link below and select the School or schools of your choice. An email account is required for notification purposes. Once your volunteer application is processed and the criminal background check is complete, you will receive an e-mail notification regarding your application from the MISD Human Resources department.

Safe Storage of Firearms

Texas law now requires school districts to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. The attached information will help you learn about options for, as well as how to talk to your child and others about, the safe storage of firearms.

It is unlawful to store, transport, or abandon an unsecured firearm in a place where children are likely to be and can obtain access to the firearm. Under Texas Penal Code 46.13, a person commits the offense of making a firearm accessible to a child if the child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm, and the person with criminal negligence:

  • Failed to secure the firearm; or

  • Left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access

The penalty for allowing a child access to a firearm can range from a Class C misdemeanor (punishable by a $500 fine) to a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by a $4000 fine, a year in jail, or a combination of the two).

Texas exempts the purchase of firearm safety equipment from Texas Sales and Use Tax. Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com.
