MTSS Lead Weekly Updates
Week of February 2, 2026
Snow Days
We have rescheduled several of last week's offerings so if you did not make one of last week's sessions, there are still opportunities. Check out links below.
ILP-D
Office Hours
We will host additional open office hours this week to support with updating ILP-Ds. If you have red stop signs, please check that you have reviewed the sequence of dates (screener date precedes the record of decision and record of decision precedes the parent notification and response); that you have confirmed status, saved, and created final; and/or exited the ILP-D if the student is no longer eligible which are the most common reasons for the red stop signs though there may be others.
Reading Horizons
Shatamara Davis will continue to host open office hours this week on Monday and Friday even though MSCS is closed for Snow Day#6. If you want to join, she is available to support with your questions about Reading Horizons Discovery and/or Elevate.
Reading Horizons Schedule
Please take a moment to share your schedule of when your school is providing dyslexia specific intervention using Reading Horizons by February 8. This is very important as the Reading Horzions team is preparing for spring on-site coaching visits, but also so that Shatamara is aware of your schedule when trying to schedule across schools.
Seeking Video Clips of Best Practices from YOU!
Would you like to earn some MSCS swag?
During the month of February, the MTSS Team is looking for teachers who would like to share their practice with others via video clips that share best practices from Reading Horizons or iReady Small Group Instruction. If you want to participate, please email a 30-90 second video clip and include a brief description of the best practice you want to highlight to RTI2@scsk12.org. Swag is limited to the first 20 educators who submit!
Rescheduled January New MTSS Lead Monthly Huddle
Pearson aimswebPlus
iReady
We have completed the Winter Diagnostics so students have an updated personalized instruction myPath. Please monitor student's pass rate and time on task and provide feedback accordingly as they work towards their goals. If you have not yet had goal setting conversations with students, remember that our time is not over, but we do not have a lot of it. Remember to be consistent and intentional each and every day.
World Read Aloud Day February 4
Scholastic is hosting World Read Aloud Day and you can register to participate in this optional opportunity.
The MidEast Scholastic Education Team cordially invites you to participate in an exclusive World Read Aloud Day event on February 4, 2026. Scholastic author Lester Laminack will share his children’s book, Three Hens and a Peacock!
Nothing unusual ever happened on the Tuckers' farm. Until the day that peacock showed up. When this glamorous visitor lands unexpectedly in their midst and begins attracting customers, three hardworking hens protest: How come we do all the hard work and he gets all the attention? What will happen when three gussied-up hens spend the day prancing and parading at passing cars? And will that peacock ever figure out how to lay an egg?
This hilarious book reveals what happens when some foolish farm animals decide to trade roles and discover just how hard it is to do someone else's job.
If you would like to purchase copies of the first book, Three Hens and a Peacock, please CLICK HERE or contact Scholastic Representative Felicia Fowler.

February is Black History Month
Spotlight on Carter G. Woodson, "Father of Black History Month"
- Carter G. Woodson (1875-1950) was a groundbreaking historian, author, and journalist, known as the "Father of Black History," who dedicated his life to studying and promoting the contributions of African Americans, leading to the establishment of Black History Month.
- Born to formerly enslaved parents, he overcame immense obstacles, working in coal mines to fund his education, eventually earning a PhD from Harvard, and founding the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) to ensure Black history was recognized and taught (Wikipedia)
